I was just wondering what u all mainly do with ur drum programing? me myself i usually loop some breakbeats, use sample cd's or limelite. what does everyone else here prefer to use?

Im not totally sure how to tweak breakbeats or amen loops to the fullist as id want too, i know u gotta split the whole beat (hi hats, kick, snare ect.) in order to cut it up properly but im not totally sure how to do this. anyone got any ideas?

I dunno about limelite, but i use fruity loops, where you can simply load the clip into a vst called "fl slicer" and it'll split the break for you. Then you just make it do what you want it to. Creating drills and breakbeats that really work and don't just destroy the track is a tricky thing, but with practice anyone can do it.

Don't know if that helps you any. Good luck!

I find random samples I enjoy from many a source, usually modify it lots, then just sequence it.

HFB is way better at beats den me though, and many many other members are.

pwn.

for breakbeats; cut up in recycle, then program in a soft sampler/sequencer... like fruity loops, or reason, or ableton... blahblah

don't know about that (buffer overrider thing...), but i'm on a personal campaign to covince people to program their own breaks etc, so just get some drum hits and program them in something like Fruity Loops or Renoise...just fucking program 'em in any old how until you find something you like...

you can then save this, freshly programmed original break as a WAV file and import it into ACID Pro, or any other multitracker.

program a few more breaks in the same way and save them all as WAV's, then load 'em all into your chosen multi tracker and paste 'em in, cut 'em about, reverse bits here and there, mute bits in and out between the different breaks, pitch some bits up and down, automate random effects over the whole lot and you should end up with some pretty mentalist shit.

nice.

thank you, there is nothing more better then the experiance of practice, i can not emphasise this idea enough.

practice make perfect.

if your aproach is not working try another aproach, this basicly go for anything you do, nothing is impossible

i often have 2 beatboxes, one with a sliced funk loop, one with separate elements chosen from my hard drive. sometimes i use a break without cutting it up for 1 bar or so, still EQed and/or distorted. very often i'm too lazy to slice the drum loops so i just load them twice: 1 starting at the kick and 1 starting at the snare.

yep, practice and lots of time.

The last track I finished was in December. I'd been working on it since last May.

- Layer stuff many times.

- Repetition is for lazy people.

- Listen to all sorts of music (not just electronic music/Drill/breakcore. electronic music/Drill/Breakcore is just everything else mixed together and made faster and added dsp), pay attention to their rhythms, and how they're constructed. hiphop, classical music (there's more rhythm involved than you think), funk music,

- Don't bother thinking outside of 4/4 time early on, you can do that once you're better. 4/4 time in fact has lots of freedom and areas unexplored, fuck the haters.

- Don't ignore your melody. People don't realize this, but you can't easily separate melody skills from rhythmic skills.

- Don't change your rhythmic divisions (I don't know the proper term for this, but like triplets vs. regular base-2 rhythms, things like this) too unexpectedly.
