I really can't understand why they included the new "line in" device, but don't include it/midi tracks when "rendering". If it's being processed inside Renoise, why can't I render it? It's very irritating trying to record into Sound Forge with perfect timing stuff thats run through Renoise's linein device, then splice it back together with the Renderd sample/vst tracks and blend the two together.

Well I just figured it was such an obvious hole in usage that there was some technical reason why it wasn't done. I mean, who wouldn't want to have Renoise record their synths through line-in when going through the rendering process rather than having to record them outside and splice them together? There has to be some reason they didn't implement it.

Well, the thing is, the "sync" recording in Renoise is so far pretty bad (it gives you this stupid little meter graphic like "ok, the pattern is about to loop!" and then it just continuously re-records that pattern over and over, at least last time I tried it. Yup, still does that. It's almost impossible to get a recorded sample to actually line up with a pattern that you're trying to record it to, which is fucking stupid because it should just be able to synchronize to the pattern. It doesn't though, it gives you this lame ass little grapphic about when the end of the pattern is comming up and lets you hit "start" and "stop", bleh.

I played with it a bit more, and you can get it to sync to a pattern, you can still only record one pattern at a time though, which is pretty annoying, especially if you have a pattern that repeats several times that you'd like to just knob tweak over, kind of breaks up the flow. Sure you could stretch several patterns inito one long one and do it that way, but it breaks up the spontenaity.

I did mean the "render" command from the file menu, and I understand that it would then have to be renderd "at real time" rather than faster than, but it could be done, it can trigger the synth over midi, run the audio in, buffer it, and render it while it's doing the rest of the stream. Oh well. I dont care to spend the time at the Renoise forums to bring it up to them.

Analog Bass (10mb download)

Here's a bunch of samples of a simple bass patch from my Synthesizers.com modular put into an xrni instrument. Keys C-4 thru C-9. The patch is 2 very slightly detuned osc's, 1 in 32' range the other in 16' range, pulse and saw waves, slight env mod on the filter frequency. Too bad xrni won't velocity map or anything or else I'd make it a monster sized instrument with filter sweeps and everything.

So. It's impossible to use vocoders in Renoise?

record your vocals in the sample editor and select the track that has the vocoder vsti in it???

The vocoder doesn't show up in the VSTi list. I can only seem to use it as an effect, and I can't figure out how to send note data to it to change the synth.

I'm using Vokator, but I'd take suggestions on better-to-use vocoders.
