Yea, I only really hear any Cichli in two songs.

Nice acquisition, Cichlisuite's one of my favourite AE releases, it's like a condensed, more consistent LP5. Anti's awesome - first track is classic, and its third track is (AFAIK) AE's first experiment with unpredictable, non-repeating beats.

I've listened Cichlisuite for the first time a few nights ago. I really like it, definitely one of their best EPs!

obviously i meant to post this in the cornfield thread.. but still: uviol

Probably their best ambient type track. Although, I dont know what the hell ambient means, cause I think most of em are ambient.

But yea, Uviol is in my top five at least if not my top top top.

Krib is my least fav song off this release. But by no means bad. It's just that the other four songs are four of the greatest songs evar. lol fanboi alert lol

funny, as coincidence I was just listining to this today whilst reading a really interesting book on the nature of handedness (myself being a lefty). Fit the mood perfectly, tis indeed a brilliant ep

Memo to autechre: make more EPs.

I listen to this release almost everyday. It is great enough to be listened to seriously, but fun enough to be listened to while walking around, and short enough that it can often be listened to entirely on one driving trip. so it is always handy on the I-pod.

Nah, Krib is one of ae's most simple, direct, and beautiful tracks. It is hauntingly bittersweet to my ears and aural processing interface. Cichlisuite has five of the greatest tracks ever, and I think it is ae's most perfect ep release, not a single weak moment.

Rook, I think it's safe to say that you are the biggest Ae fanboy on this website.

Followed by asymmetrical head and me!

Seriously, Garbage is their most perfect release. I was listening to the EP a couple times lately and I must say this is pure genius. Cichlisuite is a runner up amongst their EPs, though.

This EP deserves a good old bump. As Aesterlingman said ages ago, the finale of 'Tilapia' is fucking amazing, and one of my favourite Ae moments ever. Timely bump too, as I had this EP playing on the pod the other morning and it felt great to remember how it blew me away the first time I heard it. No less impressive today.

completely agree, at least for eps. lp5 or chiastic are top albums for me.

but then there's envane....

Cichlisuite and Envane are probably my most listened to AE eps, and lately, Anvil Vapre. But I consider Gantz Graf to be their most innovative Ep.

Garbage is great though too lol.

And while we are at it, the so are the Peel Sessions.

I only have the CD version of EP7 so I never really consider it an ep.

I would say we are do for a healthy dose of Ae eps. Seriously..

Sadly, I am without this release. Can never find it. But Tilapia from the Vancouver download is amazing. How different is the album version? Cause all I recognize from Cichli is the synth sound. Thats some remixing job if its just Cichli remixed. But i once read in an interview that Autechre's early remixes were so cut up that the original song was unrecognizalbe. Rob or maybe Sean said "and thats when we decided just to make our own music, because we just stopped using the other songs". Or something to that fashion.

you can get it right now from warpmart

Anvil Vapre is brilliant. Especially the last three songs. Second Scepe is one of Ae's simplest minor melodies, yet amazing. And Second Scout is one of there most underrated tracks. Sounds like I'm floating around in a space station. And Second Peng is a classic study in AE minimalism. As with Aphex, pre 96 Ae took me longer to get into that the latter more abstract stuff. But it is oh so rewarding. I listen to tons of Anvil Vapre and Tri Repatae lately. And much of the tracks I work on now reflect this I think. Very minimal drum work with small tweaks as it goes on. I love it. Sometimes it is hard for me to understand how Garbage and Anvil Vapre and Tri Repatae for that matter were all released in the same year, they all sound so different. Though compositionally, Tri Repatae and Anvil Vapre are very similar. The sounds they use are very different.

I would love to get my hands on whatever drum machines AE used during this period. Like in that Live at the Flex recording too. Simple yet amazing sounds. A lot of their Untilted live set reminds me of this earlier stuff.

btw, I consider Basscadet their worst release since it is just remixes. But of their actual stuff, I suppose I like Anti the least. Though those live videos of them playing in 1994 made me rethink it and wonder if when played live they were significantly better.

I believe they heavily used the Roland R8 during this time.
