I just finished version 2 of my remastering of this amazing live show. I'm satisfied with the end result now. Thanks to the extensive feedback of baph and fluorescent grey I enhanced my first version by starting over based on the fluorescent grey's remastering. It now has subtle but positive differences over my first version:
  1. high end is enhanced now instead of toned down; should be crispy and sharp now
  2. a bit more headroom to keep the dynamics even more intact
  3. a little bit less subbass which results into a less muddier mix

You can download the new and final version, yet again in lame mp3 v0 quality, over here.

Enjoy! And special thanks go out to maus for providing us the source material in the first place!

Hey GBIII - thanks for your FGrey albums! Imaginative music making - and it sounds ace, too! Apart from field recordings and editing, what are you using to make your tracks?

i'm not proud to say my first post on this forum is one asking how to make the intertubes work. so, where the hell is the download link on that page? everything that says "download" just reloads the page.

The rapidshare or zshare variant seem to be working the best for me all the time. But they are re-uploading automatically apparently by massmirror. Just use for example this one: http://picshome.com/...hp?id=00996E121 and after entering the captcha and awaiting the 30 sec you will be provided a download link.

your quite welcome. glad you enjoyed them.
On Lying on the floor i used mostly my own field recordings as sound sources, and most of the synthesis and fx comes from Reaktor 4. Most of the sequencing on that was done in Cubase SX (first version)
Gaseous opal orbs was pretty much the same except i used a lot more synthesis. a lot of Cooledit pro processing and Reaktor 5/4 synthesis and processing on it sequenced mostly using Nuendo 2. Also Tassman makes an appearance on a couple tracks, and is the main source of sounds on 'physically modeled them for children'
i didnt use one iota of hardware to make either of these two albums. My new stuff incorporates a lot of actual drum machines and modular synth stuff which i plan to put out in a year or so.

ARG! The file stopped downloading and the zip is corrupted! I want to download your remastered recording again but it seems my IP reached the bandwidth limit on that website. The megaupload, zshare and rapidshare urls don't even work, though.

I've uploaded it again for you (and possibly others as well), but this time to mediafire. This should be a reliable download experience: 2008-04-04 - usa-california-los angeles - echoplex (remastered by fredd-e v2).mp3 (88.76 MB)

Enjoy! :)

FYI to everyone, I've put the original 24/96 WAV up on wankfest, and it's healthily seeded now, so those of you with wankfest accounts can have at 'er.

cheers,
c

ive downloaded the 24/96 wav from wankfest, downsampled and dithered it to 16 bit - and provided the resulting flac to those who remastered the mp3 version before - fredd e, and GBIII. once they have finished remastering, the results will be posted here - so i wouldnt bother getting the torrent right now. its a hassle to burn it to cd anyway -and it will sound loads better once these guys have finished with it.

let me get this straight, dont bother with the 24/96 lossless wav when you can have a 16bit lossy mp3 file?

no, there will be a new remaster posted in flac. yes there is some loss in the downsampling, but the remastering will make up for that. for those who wanted an unmastered 24/96 wav, just go to wankfest

The 24/96 file sounds indeed a lot worse than our latest previous remastering effort in lossy mp3. Why don't some of you guys (read: CATS) seem to understand this?

The initial sound recording is just ok and wether you have that one in 24/96 or as the original mp3 MAUS supplied us will not make a huge difference. Heck, it won't even make a noticeable small difference.

You can't make a recording sound better by just augmenting the bitrate. Common sense.

The 24/96 has been downsampeld to 16/44.1 and flacced. This flac has been given to GB3. He received the file a couple of days ago, I don't know what he's up to right now. As soon as he provides me his remastered version, I'll do my remaster and make the V0 mp3 (and flac) available.

The difference with the previous version will be the source we used to remaster: lossy vs lossless. But imho I don't think there will be a huge difference unless GB3 and I use different mastering paramaters to further enhance the original source.

I'm not understanding why a bootleg needs to be 24/96, or FLAC. It's a bootleg, made, as the original poster said, on digital recorder with a mid-level mic, in the middle of a club, with people talking all over. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the mp3, but I don't see why it needs to be perfect? It's not a studio recording, nor a soundboard recording even - how many nuances can there really be on a bootleg?

Exactly and even more so, people will enjoy the lossy remastered mp3 a lot more than the original 24/96 wave file. Why? Because the original wave sounds really bad compared to the remastered version, wether this remastered version is lossy or not doesn't make the difference in this case at all.

yup! 24/96 picks up a greater sound profile and dynamic range, but with a bootleg, that just means more hiss, crowd, and DC buzz, really.
