springymajig Posted May 31, 2008 Share Posted May 31, 2008 I'd be lying if I said I didn't like that song... but I can't help but feel they're jumping on the freak folk bandwagon... I mean, it sounds almost exacly like Fools by Dodos, and quite a bit like the more upbeat songs from Sung Tongs by Animal Collective. And there's nothing wrong with sounding a bit like other bands it's just that they never used to, but now that bands like AC and Dodos are getting all the acclaim, they suddenly completely change their sound to fit in with that... But the first few songs are really freakin awesome! i haven't gotten through it yet. i really love gobbledigoook, but after that it goes back into more traditional sigur ros territory. only major development over their previous stuff being... a growing fondness for pounding 4/4 beats? i dunno. i guess it's nice enough. I hear you, from the opening single you'd get the impression they are taking a whole new direction, and there is some variation, but Goobligook is more an exception that the rule. I still really like Ágætis byrjun, ( ) and Takk. this new album is just.. not really all that new. the second half just fades into this slow stripped back album, reminding me of the acoustic disc on Hvarf-Heim.
