I havent used one before and I'd like to know where I can buy some really really good string libraries. Preferrably a library that has different samples for different notes but i'm guessing that most libraries probably do. The garritan instrtuments are some of the most expressive (ie: foot pedal, mod wheel, etc) modeled instruments i've ever had the pleasure of playing via a keyboard. kcinsu Posted July 2, 2008 Share Posted July 2, 2008 I took an orchestral mock-up class in school, where we used gigastudio, and tried to make realistic sounding orchestral emulations. We used the Opus edition of Vienna for the class, but we discussed various alternatives. The general consensus I get from people who have used both, is that the Vienna library is more dry recordings, and very bare boned... its up to you to EQ and add reverb, and all that stuff... which takes more time to do, but allows for more flexibility.... and the EW is samples recorded with room reverb and stereo pannings, and a somewhat unique sound... less flexible, but awesome in its own way. Kontakt 2 came with a lite version of Vienna... Im sure v3 still has it. And although limited, it can go a long way. Certainly enough to get you started, with some pretty decent results. I made a mockup of my final project for my composition major, and it sounds pretty decent... certainly not compareable to a $10,000 Vienna library, but gets the idea across. Anyways... if you get either of those, youll be in orchestral heaven. ps. Vienna has very awesome sample crossfading stuff going on, for very dynamic performances...
