edit: some nice tracks here. i think maybe this was mixed on headphones. could just need proper mastering. i'm digging the kind of rambling progressions of the melodic/synth/tonal bits. nice structures. kinda moody melancholy. right up my alley. 

edit edit: maybe it was just that first track which has the percussion kinda in the back probably on purpose as a creative decision. anyway.. i'm digging this stuff. sounds thoughtful w/o being obvious or pretentious.

The composition's very elastic, often it's hard to disentangle different elements from each other so distinctions between rhythmic, melodic and textural elements is blurred. The sound design is very natural, everything sounds like it's breathing or whining or coughing or something. Feels completely "off-the-grid", not at all tied to the piano roll. I read that the guy uses max/msp, so that makes sense. Also it's just very playful and funky, unlike a lot of experimental stuff. 

Hard to describe really. There's just a very specific itch that autechre scratches, and as soon as I heard the second track on that it was a similar thing.

I've found a lot of artists to try out thanks to this thread, so thank you. Also, I'm glad to see the exm, ignatius, and tsrono love in here as well, as I'm a big fan.

 

It hasn't been mentioned yet that I know of but exm's got three self-released works this year that I think many in here would enjoy if they haven't checked them yet:

and, yeah.. i keep grabbing the new EXM stuff and making one long playlist in my ipod. usually i listen that way. makes for good absorption of it all and i regularly come back to it. solid tunes from another place.  good to know more exm/mitoma is on the horizon somewhere.

they're doing entirely different things.. at least, to my ears. my fav of his is still the 24 hour automatic generative thing that came out long ago. i think i'd like to see/hear him live one day.

I love this one a lot. Very intense and catchy listen after listen from 2021, and sadly slept on

Kaer Uiks' Six Circuits compilation: https://kaer-uiks.bandcamp.com/album/six-circuits

Most of this label's releases are heavily influenced by autechre, so its no surprise the six-year anniversary compilation leans in that direction. At an hour long, its a consistent blast-- Qebo, sleep clinnic, hexalyne, william fields et al constribute. From 2019 their Applied Socciolingustics comp is also one of my all-time favorite beasts. That one has been mentioned here and is 4 and a half hours long, but it was a pleasure getting to know the tracks. Good stuff.

Schematic's Lily of the Valley Comp is worth mentioning, classic stuff imo (as well as their 'Well-suited for general-purpose audio work' and 'schematic folks' comps):  https://schematicmusiccompany.bandcamp.com/album/lily-of-the-valley

Thank you for this commentary on my album. It really hits the nail on my aesthetic intentions about my music, so for me it's a confirmation that I must be doing something right

I'm glad you dig, man. I had fun looking for them, and i know not everything will be loved but its nice to find some slept on stuff. C Mantle has a new album out with Kaer Uiks later this month that im definitely keeping an eye/hear out for. I already mentioned it, but i love his one from last year a lot
