Akemie's Spirit was a patch of multiple channels of fm, which I live recorded into Ableton, and then I cross faded between multiple takes. Cheers!

i get accused of trying to  autechre-ing all the time ;)    certainly happens w/the modular some times. though i don't think anyone really sounds like autechre.  they do a thing. 

 

anyway.. this thread is bring some goods. :)

i think it is.. 

 

but i think the thing is.. people who aren't obsessively listening to this kind of music to know the difference.. even reviewers of music on blogs and wherever.. those people are going to refer to autechre at some point in the review... 

 

to me.. grischa lichtenberger does not sound like autechre.. but when reading a review of his work or interview etc autechre is going to come up because well.. they've done everything at one time or another.. they've created genres and opened doors for people to do whatever weird shit they are into.. well.. them and other people.. it's not just ae.. but they are singular in a lot of ways.. we all know the story, know the music.. can plot on a map the trajectory of their career etc... i don't know wtf i'm talking about.. there's a huge amount of music out there that is challenging and weird and interesting and often good... 

 

but when someone says "oh you're just trying to out autechre autechre" well that just falls flat for me... lot's of people are into weird shit.. can't deny though that autechre has influenced the language of things.. idk.. hard to parse it out.. 

 

i can live w/the criticism or however it's framed.. i've no pretense of being good or popular or original.  i do think that there are lot's of people making music out there who have their own voice.. who aren't mimicking stuff.. but perhaps are at times overwhelmed by influences for a while until they figure out what they have to say..  thank god we're passed the 2001 era of skittery hiphop beats and FM bell tones though.. jesus. 

 

there's an interview on the art/music/technology blog w/ leafcutter john where he offhandedly comments about "not gonna do that" in reference to autechre because it's already being done pretty well.. fair enough.. i guess.  it's a good listen.. lot's of great stuff on that podcast.

Eomac's new album "Reconnect" (on his own label Eotrax) is partly inspired by Autechre. It doesn't sound much like them, but has some of the most complex, fast and polyrhythmic beats i've heard in electronic music. It's pretty dark too.

 

Had to listen to this track a few times before it was starting to make sense

It is based on artificial-life and complex adaptive systems research and the Honing Theory of creativity (Gabora 2010). NetWorks uses a hierarchical, scale-free network to generate music that can range from orderly to chaotic. Nice one, I've talked to this guy a few years ago via SC messenger. 

It was when I was collecting all the one-off Mark Fell tracks. He features on a compilation with Fell: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Digital-Space/release/880654

 

I was suitably impressed with that track to seek him out and ask him if I could get a digital copy of 'Voices from the Edge of Chaos' from him. He's a very nice and approachable man.

And yeah those Networks albums are fucking lush

I was present at the event, and I can say that what I felt was not far from what I felt with Onesix, live.
