scanned thru this. sounds nice. added to my wishlist.. thanks!

edit: some nice tracks here. i think maybe this was mixed on headphones. could just need proper mastering. i'm digging the kind of rambling progressions of the melodic/synth/tonal bits. nice structures. kinda moody melancholy. right up my alley.

edit edit: maybe it was just that first track which has the percussion kinda in the back probably on purpose as a creative decision. anyway.. i'm digging this stuff. sounds thoughtful w/o being obvious or pretentious.

Like what?

The composition's very elastic, often it's hard to disentangle different elements from each other so distinctions between rhythmic, melodic and textural elements is blurred. The sound design is very natural, everything sounds like it's breathing or whining or coughing or something. Feels completely "off-the-grid", not at all tied to the piano roll. I read that the guy uses max/msp, so that makes sense. Also it's just very playful and funky, unlike a lot of experimental stuff.

Hard to describe really. There's just a very specific itch that autechre scratches, and as soon as I heard the second track on that it was a similar thing.

Understand! 👍👍
It’s always interesting to hear what ppl like about autechre, especially bc nothing youve mentioned is the reason why i like them and what’s important to me in music in general

Greetings, all!

I've found a lot of artists to try out thanks to this thread, so thank you. Also, I'm glad to see the exm, ignatius, and tsrono love in here as well, as I'm a big fan.

It hasn't been mentioned yet that I know of but exm's got three self-released works this year that I think many in here would enjoy if they haven't checked them yet:

https://exmat.bandcamp.com/album/pas-de-point-e-p

https://exmat.bandcamp.com/album/odd-times

https://exmat.bandcamp.com/album/mmlxxvii

I saw his work with mitoma mentioned in here, which is phenomenal imo, and he has another one that came out this year too, name your price, that's very good and has a touch of phoenecia in it: https://section27.bandcamp.com/album/e-m

I spoke briefly with Mitoma's Tam, and he said they have more work planned together for the future.

Cheers!

and, yeah.. i keep grabbing the new EXM stuff and making one long playlist in my ipod. usually i listen that way. makes for good absorption of it all and i regularly come back to it. solid tunes from another place.  good to know more exm/mitoma is on the horizon somewhere.

Fields is wonderful, especially if you love the generative computer music thing. https://threeop.bandcamp.com/ has a lot of similar minded releases and Fields releases with them. His alive live album with qebo from this year is great! https://threeop.bandcamp.com/album/live

Speaking of Fields, this v/a comp called Exhibit A from Aud-Art is strikingly good: https://aud-art.bandcamp.com/album/exhibit-a Flows really well and features william fields, exm, Roel Funcken, exzem, Patrik Lechner, Grischa Lichtenberger, and several others that I've grown to love this year.

William Fields. Maybe better than autechre

they're doing entirely different things.. at least, to my ears. my fav of his is still the 24 hour automatic generative thing that came out long ago. i think i'd like to see/hear him live one day.

Some more that might be enjoyed by peeps in here i didn't see mentioned:

C-mantle' Anatomically Correct: https://acrerecordings.bandcamp.com/album/anatomically-correct

I love this one a lot. Very intense and catchy listen after listen from 2021, and sadly slept on

Kaer Uiks' Six Circuits compilation: https://kaer-uiks.bandcamp.com/album/six-circuits

Most of this label's releases are heavily influenced by autechre, so its no surprise the six-year anniversary compilation leans in that direction. At an hour long, its a consistent blast-- Qebo, sleep clinnic, hexalyne, william fields et al constribute. From 2019 their Applied Socciolingustics comp is also one of my all-time favorite beasts. That one has been mentioned here and is 4 and a half hours long, but it was a pleasure getting to know the tracks. Good stuff.

Schematic's Lily of the Valley Comp is worth mentioning, classic stuff imo (as well as their 'Well-suited for general-purpose audio work' and 'schematic folks' comps):  https://schematicmusiccompany.bandcamp.com/album/lily-of-the-valley

And this one isn't out til 12/2, but im looking forward to it. Printiig's Interhymns: https://printiigmusic.bandcamp.com/album/interhymns

I believe tsrono put one out on pointsource too, as did Hexalyne, both great. Printiig's got an intensity to his tracks that im really fond of, spastic and fierce beats. Id check the preview songs before release or his other releases from this year on other labels. Love this one:

https://thecollectionartaud.bandcamp.com/album/tca-54-contact

And lastly Dfaniks' Save the robots: https://dfaniks1.bandcamp.com/album/save-the-robots

it's like autechre and richard devine had a baby.

Thank you for this commentary on my album. It really hits the nail on my aesthetic intentions about my music, so for me it's a confirmation that I must be doing something right 🙂
