buying monitors

Recommended Posts

[search]buying studio monitors[/search]OK so I am going to buy some studio monitors pretty soon, and I'm deliberating over which to get. I know there are some studio guys here who might have some good tips. Right now it's between:

Mackie(or Tapco) MR5's

MR8's

or possibly some Adam A5's (sex).

The white ones are just so nice.

I'm really only a producer. Not really mixing stuff to any high degree, so incredible sound is only a bonus. :) I would love the 8's for the bass though. If I got the 5's I'd end up getting a sub before too long.

Any experience? There are probably better options out there, but I'm going off of a local retailer (who happens to have pretty tasty prices).

Some guy asked me the very same question a couple of days ago, and I told him to go to a store, bring some music that he listens to, test the monitors and pick the ones he thought sounded the best. It's all a matter of opinion and everyone has them, but it's YOUR opinion that matters because you're the one who is going to use them, right?

I would go for the MR8's. Go big or go home.

By the way, it's not always a good idea to mix with a sub.

ya I know about mixing w/ a sub. Thats a year out anyways.

I was really wondering if anyone had any experience w/ the Adam's. I ahve heard that they sound amazing. Never heard of them until just now, but I think it's because they are really high end and were out of my range of interest.

I'll be testing some soon.
