are those your vocals? either way well done .. the roboty sound clashes nicely with the dark mix

i like the intro section and the way it gives way to the drums

the synth that comes in just before the drums is very, very tasty

at first i didn't totally get the transitions, but on the 2nd/3rd listens i feel they are natural

there are a couple of spots that sound overcompressed on phones, but i would probably care less on speakers. plus i know you like that

the mix is a little dark in a weird way that makes it sound like an mp3. you may have been going for this.

if i was mixing this i would

open the snare up with a little stereo verb at some point (maybe part 3)

get some tasty highs on most of the sounds

vary the velocity of the kick sometimes

take the compression down a notch

make the rides stereo

but i am not mixing it, and i think it sounds like you. so good job! i enjoyed the ep you posted a while ago too, i forget if i thanked you for that at the time.

Absolutely no feedback other than this is bloody BRILLIANT! Downloaded and will definitely listen to this again. Really nice, didn't know what to expect when the voice came in, but it progressed just beautifully. Well done.

Also, where is this EP? Based on this track I would love to hear it. Cheeeers!

holy fuck, i haven't talked to you in years.

yes, those are my vocals.

all of your criticism is really good, but i don't know how to open the snare up without fighting the other tracks for space. i tried to do that, but it makes my kick less punchy. or would compressing it less take care of that?

i did want the mix dark, but i don't know what you mean 'makes it sound like an mp3,' mostly because you're uh. listening to an mp3. could you elaborate a little more?

yeah, the ride totally needs some work.

this song was basically an experiment in mixing, and i want feedback so badly so i can learn more about how to do it. even though that's basically what i majored in, i don't think i'm very good at it.

tasty highs how? exciter?

ABE U PLS HALP?

do you have aim still or some other gay social networking thing so we can talk outside of watmm?

that's great feedback!

my ep is up here, i think on like the second page. doesn't sound at all like this though.

thanks!

the syncopation of everything sounds kinda weird, but i bet it's just me. sounds awesome! the wailing melody and the vocals, all good

come talk to me on slsk! nick a7otc.

the mix is basically really good. what i mean by mp3 sound is something i notice when listening to 128kpbs vs wavs, etc - the highs are dull and muddy. yours are not bad like that, but some of the sounds (drums/bass) sound like they could have more definition and space in the mix. hear how the synth i like sparkles and gleams in the high range without being piercing? the vocals have this quality too. that's a quality i strive for, and if your whole mix sounded like that, it might sound less like you. i get most of it with EQ, panning, and slight detuning. sometimes a subtle high-frequency verb will really open up a sound. using samples with a lot of highs is the easiest way to go - taking out whatever you don't need.

if you stick a low long verb on the snare, it should duck when the kick hits (it sounds like the drums are compressed together, forgive me if i am wrong). the kick and the bass play nicely together - i only notice the breathing when i really concentrate, which is how it should be.

love the bassline and the kick sound too btw.

re: headphones vs. speakers, i don't have speakers, so the only way i can hear it outside of phones is if i burn a cd and take it to the car, which isn't really practical. my headphones aren't the greatest.

i have a reverb with mostly highs on the snare, and i added another, higher layer to it. i tried putting some lower reverb on it, but it fucks with the bass synth. i also lowered the compression quite a bit on most things, and added a second ride, and split the panning.

i take your advice to heart because your shit always sounds so clean, but dirty at the same time (thinking 'pyrrhos'), which is a sound i'd really like to get. seems incongruous with huge amounts of reverb, which is a style i've had a very difficult time giving up.

here's an updated version:

i left the old one up for comparison, if anybody cares.

dude! nice! i think you really improved it. the ride sounds sweet. a lot of the tracks give me that nice tingle i look for in the highs, which is awesome. the tracks also sound better separated, which could be due to backing off the compression.

i see what you mean about the snare. i would probably lose the reverb you added to it. it will stand out better without it.

thank you for the props on pyrrhos, i haven't listened to that track in years :nacmat:

hit me up on slsk if you see me

i agree with calx. im not crazy about the syncopation but everything else sounds really tight. the snare and ride sound nicer after the update.
