that's really interesting. i kinda know what you mean, but i find it really odd.

i listen to a lot of metal. there are many sub-genres, even ones that are pretty uplifting/happy. but all metal i listen to is either suicidally depressive, or at least very melancholic. but i love it!!!

i know a few people (my brother for instance) that also have issues with "the mood that metal puts me in". vamos, can you elaborate some more?

well basically i like to listen to music that either sounds mystical or downright happy. occasionally i'll wander into some psychedelic, experimental realms. lately though i find that when i listen to certain music it can put me into a bad mood.

metal is one genre that tends to be consistently depressing. i've been trying to be positive lately so metal is something i sort of don't want to listen to. i'm pretty sure that come fall/winter i'll be back in the melancholic guitar mood though.

sabbath is the best starting point. is led zep metal?

from a point of view, yes..same with Queen and stuff - rock, rock metal, metal rock, metal.

from my collection I would recomend:

Blind Guardian - Another Strange Me (extra tracks version)

Waltari - Yeah!Yeah!Die!Die! or Decade which is sort of a best of

Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddom

Diabolical Masquerade - The Phantom Lodge

Dark Tranquility - Character

White Zombie - Astro Creep 2000

Theatre Of Tragedy - Velvet Darkness They Fear

Kataklysm - Prevail

In Flames - Reroute To Remain

Cradle Of Filth - Midian

My Dying Bride - Anti-Diluvian Chronicles (best of)

Hypocrisy - Virus

Fear Factory - Demanufacture\Remanufacture\Obsolete\Archetype

Sepultura - Roots

Therion - Gothic Kabbalah

....many more......

for those who like Opeth, try Katatonia for example....

listen to anything but cradle of filth

maybe avoid death-like vocals and just stick to more melodic singing, that might make it easier
