You didn't just go ahead and make my fucking thread did you? Read the rules!

Anyways yeah, here we go. I'm doin up Lego Feet first just to warm up.

i think lego feet has some of the most aphex twiny beats ae have ever released. maybe just a consequence of hardware.

i also forgot how badass doctrine is at high volumes.

Firstly i'm gonna listen to all of it in order. Already started actually, 2:05 in Bronchus, Ipod says.

Oh this track could have been used for a Rez menu. Eggshell now... to me Incunabula is all about atmospheres. One of my very favourite.

I heard Incunabula was basically released without consent of Autechre. That warp just took a bunch of their tracks and put artwork on it and released it. Or something along the lines of that.. does someone know if this is true? If so it's weird we think of it in a modern context, like other 'finely constructed' Autechre albums.

And a 'just starting' impression.. Kapol Introl is such a wonderfully lush sounding track. The way the drum hits echo off each other is fantastic, and of course the transition to Bike is perfection.

From what I remember, it was a collection of old tracks they had made, but I never heard anything about it being released beyond their will. I mean... didn't they get signed with warp on Incunabula? Why would they sign onto a label and then immediately give them access/control over their tracks so they can drop an album right away? Doesn't make much sense to me although I could be wrong.

Anyways back to the grind: Bike is awesome. Its been said before and it will be said again. The pads that come in towards the end are like auditory sex

also in Autriche the synth coming in at 4:10 is ace

Ae sent some tapes to Warp, Warp wrote back and Ae worked again on those tracks following Warp's advice. They kept doing this for a while and the final result is Incunabula.

Windwind is definitely one of their most epic and fantastic tracks ever. The way it winds around and pretends to end only to keep going for another 3 minutes.

wow... love the way melody flows around itself in this track.

Does anyone else feel that Autriche is an under-appreciated track? I don't know about you, but I think it has a beautiful melody, and a wondeful, warm feel to it. It has a well defined atmosphere, and those disembodied voices are the icing on the cake.

And what's up with Bronchus 2? Jesus Christ, it's gotta be from another planet or something, words can hardly describe its awesomeness.

Anyway, I've just listened to Incunabula all the way through for the first time in over a year. There are some tracks on there that I haven't given a proper listen to for a while, and tracks like Doctrine, Maetl and Lowride were surprisingly better than I remember them to be. But, of course, listening to Windwind and 444 at 3:00am without any earthly distractions has been an amazing experience, even going beyond my expectations.

Stay tuned for my thoughts on Basscad and Anti, all I have left to say is that I'm really looking forward to listening to Ae's entire discog like this!

Seriously Bronchus 2 is one of my favorite Ae tracks, those vox samples sound so....I dunno, in agony or something "arrrrggghghhzhzhzhz" llolol

Had to stop for a bit, continuing on w/Bike.

And yes, Autriche is deathly underappreciated.

i think i've overplayed this album. it's great but i'm not liking some of the tracks as much as i used to (eg. bike is nice but it's way too long for just a few little melodies). however, listening today for the first time in a couple of years i've gained an appreciation of a few tracks i wasn't really feeling last time i heard them, those being kalpol introl, bronchus2 and basscadet. also doctrine and eggshell are fuckin' excellent.

can't wait to spin anti and basscadep again, haven't heard those in years. is it just me or is the vinyl version of basscadep different to the cd version? a couple of different tracks or something?

Yeah Bike is cool but a bit too long.

Im listening to Bassdac now, for the very first time. In Bcdtmx I like how it changed while keeping the rythm and tension of Basscadet. There's maybe more groove.

I don't need to be listening incunabula with you fellows to know it's one of the best ever.

eggshell is such a classic. i adore those 16th note clicks in the right channel in the beginning. What a great timbre those are.

agreed fully. even after listening to this album many times its still got some surprises.

I can actually enjoy Maetl and Lowride, before those were instant-skips for me.

Talking about Anti, Lost is one that is pretty good but does not make it into my rotation often. The only thing I don't really get is the kinda off-key female vocal samples that pop in from time to time. Almost like they are too shy to fully emerge as a melody.

Djarum is one of the most playful ae melodies. I love the part where it breaks down and gets all bouncy as someone on here worded it well. Flutter is also really really awesome and the concept behind it really serves to make it even better of a track.

I really enjoy reading other people's observations on music, especially when it comes to Autechre as it seems that to me they are one of the most subjective bands I know -- to an extemt where all the fans of their music have very many different opinions.

Stand out tracks on Incunabula for me are Bike, Autriche, Windwind and 444. At around the 3.50 mark where the reverb hits you, that to me is one of my favourite Ae moments.

The album resembles the season of Winter for me personally, as it was a Winter month when I discovered it. Full of atmospheres as someone quite rightly pointed out which is one of the main reasons why I love listening to it when approaching Autumn/Winter period, because it is satisfying to listen to the amount of warm reverb and melodies the album offers when it gets darker walking home from work. I hear a lot of people describe Ae's music as "cold", that isn't meant to sound negative in any way as I can agree with this.. I can't say that I have given this album much of a listen throughout a Summer season -- it's seems strange that I categorize this album like that but that's just the way I prefer to listen to it.

i like the idea of corresponding music to seasons, and sometimes weather. i'm too heavily affected by it, i sometimes can't listen to music if it's sunny. it just doesn't sound right. grey overcast makes it better for some reason, idk
