Ok. I understand that he uses the amen break heavily.

I just don't know where to start when it comes to drill n bass.

Where do I start? Do I need a drum machine, tracker, or just a basic sequencer?

Are there certain techniques to start with..

I've been looking around for articles and help, but I don't really see anything.

And what are DSP processes? Because I read somewhere where SP uses these.

Help me, I'm confused and don't know where to start..........

It's the only type of music I want to make right now.

this is not a good way to start. it's good to have influences, but trying to copy another artist is not the best path.

* cheap PC + freeware tracker

* "10000 wicked jungle breakbeats" + "Krzysztof penderecki" box sets, maybe a few film samples whatever its all good

* deed poll to change name to Aaron Funk

this also works if you want to "make drill and bass like Aphex Twin"

ZAZ, you are going down the wrong path by trying to copy other artists. It will only end in failure, just like your second post in this thread (ZAZ quoted himself and replied to himself  )

ZAZ, when you become a man you will learn that originality is the key to prosperity. Puberty has been harsh on you. You created a thread where you asked how to get an Aphex sound, you are going down a terrible path ZAZ. I'm glad the other people who posted in this thread noticed your doomed plans and told you.

In short, just don't bother.

if you really want to make this style of music, get your hands on some free music software and start making music. try working with a piano roll, or a tracker, or a sequencer... program drums... mess with samples... create synth sounds...

if anyone could sound like squarepusher or aphex music with no musical knowledge and just some simple tips from a music making forum, no one would care about sp/afx.

that is all.

ZAZ all 3 of your threads are basically the exact same.

You are not going to find an "i-win" button for this kind of stuff.

You litterally are going to have to sit down and focus on seconds of music at a time, once its mind fuck enough move to the next measure, and continue for the next few hours/days/weeks until its crazy enough.

The best results will never come from random plugins. The best results will come from creativity inspired patterns intricutly programmed which flow with the music.

As someone already said: just don't bother.

You are not going to get near the pusher's level. He is the master of drum programming, and unless you have some sort of talent for it, you are going to get frustrated really fast, eventually giving up. Its okay to try to sound like someone you respect when you start, everyone does that, but honestly, maybe you are aiming too high. And even if you got the talent, you can't expect to get near the programming level in Go Plastic without years and years of training. Theres no easy way there.

Good luck anyway.

To be honest I'm suprised at everyone saying not to copy/imitate influences when starting out - it's an excellent way of learning production methods and tricks - of course get to your own sound eventually.

But think of it like guitar - I personally learnt by learning all of my fav Hendrix and getting his sounds - which lead me down other paths of musical experimentation.

Then again this is watmm and all is sacred...

Just watch that old pusher interview where he is making his tracks with a reel to reel and realize no amount of software wizardy is going to replace an attentive ear and some dedicated effort without sounding halfassed.

When it comes to software that attempts to create these effects though I think Tim Exile has gotten about as close as it gets with his mashup ensemble for Reaktor.

That new Finger ensemble is pretty slick also.
