Trainer, Disc 3

Apologies if this has been asked/ covered before, but does anyone have or know of any of the tracks that were to appear on the third CD of the Trainer comp. back in 2000? I remember there was gonna be another disc with another 10-15 old/ unreleased tracks, but the other original member of The Black Dog/ Black Dog Productions wouldn't agree to its release for some reason. I assume that these were tracks in which all 3 of them collaborated, but am not sure....

Anyway, does anybody have or know of the whereabouts of this other stuff, or what any of the tracks were called?

Would love to hear them.

I heard about that too, but i am afraid i know as much as you do.

I hope one day those tracks come to us.

The fabled third CD did make it to light in a handful of white label 4x12 pressings. From my understanding they couldn't secure the rights for the Parasight EP and the Black Dog Productions EP on Rising High. It was these tracks that were on that last vinyl. There could have been more material, but I have nothing to base that on. I know of two people who have old+unreleased Black Dog/Balil tracks (one of whom claims to have tons). Supposedly, Ed was to release a Balil LP on Rising High after Parasight, but that never made it through. I have a feeling some of that old material got scattered though. Undoneson and Spudink sound like they would have come from that era.

Thanks for the info there. i'm quite sure there was a bunch more tracks to be on that CD aswell as those EP's you mention.

and i remember reading something about some troubles they had in discussions with Downie, which was one of the reasons why they couldn't release that third CD under Warp. I know it's almost 10 years ago now but i do remember that. i think. lol

The Undoneson EP does sound quite 'Black Doggy', i agree.

Would love a new EP from Balil.. anytime, any tracks, new or old. that'd be great.

Same goes for 'Tura'. even tho, in an interview they did once i heard Ed say that he was actually Tura, too. aswell as Close, Up, Over and Balil. Oh the confusion lol

Hi guys

I have just seen this thread and I thought I would reply to clear up things. I have the 4LP test pressing and a 3 CDR Townhouse Acetate of the Trainer album. The 4th LP does indeed contain the "Black Dog Productions EP" and the Balil "Parasight" EP. The 3rd disc on the CDRs contain the same tracks. The running order is as follows. disca 1 and 2 are the same as the official release.

Balil - Flux

Atypic - Otaku

Atypic - Pillars and Mirrors

Balil - Rosary Pilots

Balil - Avidya

Balil - Parasight

Balil - Island

Balil - Flux (Flux D mix by Arno)

Sorry for some misinformation about Trainer Disc 3 which I added above. I took the info from a CDR copy I made of the tracks on the 3 CD promo whick weren't on the commercially released 2 disc set. I made the copy over 9 years ago when I acquired the promos. The 1st 7 tracks are on the Promo set but track 8 "Flux D mix by Arno" was added by myself to fill up the disc. That track is available on CD on quite a few compilations, I copied it off the Rising High compilation. The 7 tracks are spread over disc 2 and 3 of the promo set. I managed to dig out the discs today and the running order of the promos follows.

All 3 discs have a printed "The Town House Post Productions" insert with the tracklisting of each CDR. The CDRs have the same info printed on them but no track listings. They also have a printed date of 31/03/2000.

Hi Alex, thanks a lot for taking the time to post that for us. Have to say though i am a bit dissapointed with the tracklisting because i thought for some reason/ was hoping for, a lot of 'previously unheard' Balil/Atypic/Tura/Black Dog stuff! ...and that this stuff might still be out there somewhere.... and may even see the light of day one day, for us joe publics.

i've heard and got all the Rising High stuff. lovely tracks, don't get me wrong, but was just hoping for something 'new'. if you have connections, maybe you could suggest they release another collection of unreleased stuff?

Sorry Sirch

I don't have any connection with Plaid. I was just buying lot's of tunes from the right shop when the Promo's came in. I had bought lot's of Black Dog and Plaid 12"s and promo's from one particular shop on the south coast who sold loads of Warp and Rephlex records.

The owner called me when these came in. I got the 3CD set and the 4 LP set for not too much cash.

You are right about the tracks though. I have the Parasight EP and the other 3 tracks can be found on the Black Dog EP and various compilations. Would love to hear more unreleased music from that era. Got to say though I was still excited when Trainer came out as albums like Mbuki Mvuki were selling for small fortunes at the time. I had a well worn ex DJ copy and it was great to get a good vinyl pressing and on CD.

As for your other question Andy is Tura, have a look at Discogs or Last FM for this.

"Tura is an alias of Andy Turner AKA Atypic. 1/2 of Plaid, 1/3 of the original The Black Dog"

A no-go for posting the tracks from the 3rd trainer disc, even though they are not commercially available.

based on just about every interview ive heard, seen, or read from these guys, i think it's safe to say that ed and andy are some of the coolest people making electronic music.
