alright, i just watched "welcome to the nhk".

put this on the top of your list if you haven't seen it yet, it's great.

no giant robots, no sword fights, no cyberspace hacking, just a story about modern life.

in terms of emotional capacity, it's up there with NGE.

not just pathos, either, it's genuinely funny at times, especially in the earlier episodes.

Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt has a pretty sweet soundtrack that just came out yesterday, but I'm not sure if it's WATMMs kind of music.

(and it's a tv show, not a weird tentacle porno in case you were unsure)

it drags a little towards the end, but yeah, i recall liking it the first time i watched it through.

Mind Game

Tekkon Kinkreet

definitely not in the future sort of vein you've referenced, but two amazing amazing films. And of course Plaid did the soundtrack to Tekkon Kinkreet...and it's quality.

2008??

PETITION FOR MIND GAME BLU-RAY GODDAMNIT!!!!!!

Guest AcrossCanyons

Afro Samurai (series/film sorta, just broken into episodes) + the sequel (film)

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Samurai Champloo as already mentioned. Great series.

Also Death Note starts great but the end is rubbish, I got the whole set and I was so disappointed with it towards the end :(

Struggling to think from there right now, just woken up. Probably a few more.

this may sound random, and i don't believe it applies to an anime from 08 or 09 (could be wrong), but I someone posted a link on here a while back that had footage from a particular movie that caught my interest. One of the only things I remember was that there was a UN Army in Mech suites. Does anyone know wtf I am talking about?

The Macross series has always used UN SPACEY for their mech designations from what I recall...

Am I wrong for still liking Naruto (Manga and Anime)?

Paranoia Agent

Glad you mentioned this one, my favourite anime of all time by far

Haven't seen the follwing mentioned yet:

Noein (2005)

Boogiepop Phantom (2000)

Gantz (2004)

It does seem like there's been a number of dry years for anime lately...

I know this one is an oldie, but anyone seen Urotsukidoji? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108461/

  • 6 years later...

The closest to "hate" I saw were a standard trite ironic meme about anime's "life changing" qualities which went ignored, and a comment about a theme song being annoying (and admit it, nearly all anime theme songs are putrid fucking trash).
