post pics of your cat(s)

Welp, my really angry kitty I've posted in here about... Bit the bullet and put it in for surgery today, it had a major bladder blockage of some kind. The vet basically gave us 2 options - pay 2500-3500$ for surgery and 2-4 days on an IV drip, or euthanize it.

It's a little shit, but it's my little shit.... So we opted for surgery. I guess I'd be a menace of a cat if I was shooting shards of crystal out my dick too.

I just hope this makes it better. If a month goes by and I'm back to square one with it, I don't think I can afford another surgery. =(

no pic right now but when the little bugger gets home I'll post one!

do you leave plenty of water out for it?

Yeah... we actually change the water out daily, and only use filtered water. But we have a hard time getting it to drink water, it just doesn't seem interested for some reason?

So we do wet food when we can, and for the dry food we sometimes soak it in water that way it's getting water that way. We don't know what else to do. Any recommendations?

wet food helps. if it eats enough of that then it may well not need to drink a lot of water. it's just that if it only eats dry food and doesn't drink enough water, that bladder stone problem will occur. I made that mistake with one of my previous cats.

I think that may be the problem yeah, not enough wet food and can't get it to drink water. We even tried getting one of those fountain things, apparently the running water encourages them to drink or something? And both the kitties don't like it, they knock the water bottle off it for fun and don't drink from it. =(

Vet just called and said even though it was sedated they can't get a catheter in to clear the blockage fully. They verified there aren't any stones anymore, and they drained the bladder through some other procedure. So they will give it some anti inflammatory medicine overnight and try the catheter again in the morning. They said if they can't clear it they will have to refer it to a specialist and that's like 4-6000$ and I simply can't afford that.

This SUCKS. Merry christmas steve.

I have a male cat that would never drink water and get UTIs if eating dry food. I recently bought a pet drinking fountain and he drinks from it like nobody's business.

how about some low fat lactose-free milk as an incentive?..cats can't really process lactose(milk sugar), when they are grown ups but most of them still like it(milk) as a treat. mine loves the lactose-free one and has no problems with digesting it @ all and she's going 18 next year. eventually you have to go through 2-3 different brands, before you hit the "spot".

in my experience cats prefer to drink water that isn't theirs. Korg rarely touches her water bowl but as soon as I pour myself a glass of water she's there like a feline ninja with her face stuck in it.

I know, ugh. I just didn't want to euthanize the poor little guy....

I hope it works out... the medical doctor there (not the vet) said he's doing well. So fingers crossed. =)

  • 4 weeks later...

I should have posted an update, whoops.

Mine is alive and well. After the surgeries and everything the vet kept him for a few days, and then I had to quarantine the little bugger in a bathroom for two weeks (so it wouldn't try jumping around or being overactive).

Seems to be healthier than ever now! =)
