i didn't see a thread for global goon and decided that was a huge fucking mistake. if it turns out i made a huge fucking mistake and there already was a thread, my apologies. ANYWHO, global goon is most definitely my favorite rephlex artist asides from afx. he is THE SHIT. every track he writes makes you like this :emotawesomepm9: . you've probably got the idea. his stuff after he left rephlex was/is less interesting, but the rephlex records. solid gold. SO I'M WONDERING "what's the love situation with global goon". who's wanting to answer?

my favorite tracks are:

everything on family glue

everything on goon

everything on cradle of history

everything on vatican nitez

edit: reordered favorites by how much i enjoy their greatness

i've only got family glue, which i received from the man himself as he was giving away some at watmm when it came out. it's just fun music, something that often is missing in a lot of idm/electronic music.

I like Vatican Nitez alright (especially 'Scott Cronce Is The CEO'), but thought Cradle of History was pretty crap, save for a couple songs. Haven't heard any others.

i'll always cherish the days when Global goon was hanging out in rec.music.ambient circa 1997-99 and hyping up his own tracks (while pretending to be fans), there was even a funny debate where he claimed (under a fake name) that aphex stole windowlicker off of one of his tracks. if the whole syntheme thing is a hoax, its pretty genius.

possible top tracks list:

goon - metal buffalo

vatican nitez - business man

family glue - glory b into keep yer face on

cradle of history - funkydrunk

its hard to choose, though. albums like family glue and cradle are (to me) just filled with winners.

i gave saint aime another listen but its just so lifeless in comparison to the rest of his music! its good acid, but just totally pales in comparison to his earlier work. cheesy as it is i read a review that referred to it as "health music" and i can't think of any better name for it. there's something in his earlier albums that seem to embody everything that's good about being human.

i'll always cherish this sig he made for me when i first signed up on watmm

woah.. he is/was once a watmmer?

Strangely, I hadn't listened to Global Goon for a loong while but this morning put on Vatican Nitez, then i open the watmm forum only to find a new thread about the man. It's a lovely album! I'm not sure if i've even heard Family Glue and Goon thoiugfhgdj...... Cradle to my recollection had some sweet tracks but also crappy ones.

i meant the fact that he sends out a woman to play his sets for him and has never publicly admitted that he is indeed syntheme

Vatican Nitez is one of my all-time favorite albums as a whole. It flows so perfectly from start to finish and works well in a variety of settings. Great for evening down time but also good listening in the car. Like Geogaddi, it never gets old.

Squarepusher’s sonic masterpiece and debut mind-melter of an LP Feed Me Weird Things returns, reissued on double vinyl for the first time since its release on the 3rd of June 1996. Originally released on Rephlex, Aphex Twin himself noted on the sleeve notes of the original that Squarepusher makes “sound like sound never sounded before… Squarepusher gives us the SOUND of SOUND.” Now released on Warp 25 years later, the original album has been remastered from the original DATs and features two extra tracks on a 10 which were first released on the B-side of the Squarepusher Plays… EP and later featured on the original Japanese release of this album. The edition also includes a 16 page booklet with personal photographs, ephemera and notes from Tom Jenkinson, giving us an insight into his early career and into a time of true experimentation and innovation during the mid-90s.
To say it was ‘ahead of its time’ feels unsatisfactory, and almost chronologically inaccurate - the wild array of styles it blends makes Feed Me Weird Things seem to exist in a time and space continuum all of its own. Maybe there really were UFOs over Leytonstone?
Using the nascent energy and wildly experimental drum programming of jungle as its main rhythmic driving force, Feed Me Weird Things is celebrated for the way it was able to blend and cross-pollinate genres so effectively. Jazz, instrumental dub, trip-hop, UK hardcore, ambient synthesis, seventies cop funk and even a kind of mangled bossa nova are all tied magically together, transcending into a sound uniquely his own.
Without delving into the many highlights and moments on the record, it serves as both a snapshot of one of the most vital, experimental periods in the history of UK electronic music and how the young Tom Jenkinson was pushing the boundaries of electronic music, into something well and truly weird, feeding into the canon of electronic music that resonated on into that decade and beyond.

Now, I was surprised not to find a thread for this since it has been around for a while, a full version is available in the ballacid channel.
However I know that a "remastered" version with fixed audio and better sync amongst other things was available on the channel
at the address youtu.be/gfc_xp113Oo until it was privated sometime during the last year.
I guess this thread is for discussing the vid but also for letting people know if the remastered version ever becomes available again..
