ok, err, try "the orb's adventure beyond the ultraworld" to start with (it's 2 cds), then "orbus terrarum" if you want weirder stuff.

marge are you just a comprehensive orb fanatic or are you like me and only really consider the adventures uforb and orbus terrarum to be real classics

um...

well, i like pomme fritz, reminds me of sun electric's live stuff from the 1993/1994 tour. it's more of a sun electric lp, thrash didn't do much on it. plus, lovely blue vinyl.

ffwd is awesome.

orblivion was pretty damn good, although i didn't think so when i first heard it. it's grown on me a lot.

cydonia had two or three great tracks - terminus (recorded in the ffwd sessions), a mile long lump of lard (recorded in 1997), egnabled (recorded in 1993), etc. there's too much shite though. once more, thursday's keeper, blaaah.

bikes and trikes was the tour when i first saw the orb live, so there's stuff on there that i like that otherwise i probably wouldn't (abstractions is great though)

okie dokie is pretty much a felhmann solo album, which makes it pretty damn good.

the dream has one good track (the opening track), the rest is shite, and youth should never be let near the orb again.

baghdad batteries hasn't sunk into my memory yet, but it's up there with pomme fritz.

but none of the above are classics like their first three albums, but i'm glad they've tried new things instead of rehashing the same formula. when the dream was released, lx said it was the orb coming full circle and doing a new version of adventures, so i'm glad they don't try emulating their past material too often because it sounds atrocious.

i haven't even listened to aubrey mixes: the ultraworld excursions yet, it is supposed to be really good though

it's alright. i like the fehlmann mix of outlands. two identical mixes of spanish castles is taking the piss a bit.

orbscure trax - the rare excursions is damn good.

i really like the first two volumes of orbsessions (haven't listened to baghdad batteries yet)

there're no wikipedia pages on those; marge do you know the dates of the tracks included?

roughly, yeah.

most of the orbsessions tracks are from 1999 to 2004. the major exceptions are mummie don't and pluto calling, which are both from 1989 with jimmy cauty.

dadoes and both versions of shem were released on an untitled 12" on badorb in about 2002, and quite a few of the other tracks were on early demo versions of cydonia (yungle, eurofen, ralph's cupboard, jam on yr honey).

lx wanted to release the ffwd demo "orbert" as an orbsession cd, but thrash declined to give permission. i have the flac from thrash's hard drive anyway.

i had a feeling mummie don't went way back, but then that skewed my perception so that any orbsessions track with tape hiss seemed to be from 1989 lol
