okay, i'm horribly sorry for posting such an inane question as my first thread, but i've been having an argument with friends and would love to end it.

in "come on you slags" is the distorted vocal sample repeating "come on you slags" or "i want sex"?

thanks.

Actually I've had this exact same dilemma. I've settled on the first because it's the name of the track but at first I was certain it's "I want sex"

Maybe it is both

I never even thought about it being come on you slags. Whats that even mean? I want sex is the way to go. He is listening to some sort of girls talking about some sort of coming out party and he wants to have some sex. Its just a song about primal lust.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe "slag" is British slang for ho, bitch, cunt, etc. I always assumed that the vocal sample was "come on you slags" because that's the title of the song. I still can't hear "I want sex" but it's interesting to see that the debate is pretty split. On various lyrics sites, both versions can be found. Although who the hell would want to transcribe aphex "lyrics"?

Indeed. It's (1) Come On You Slags & (2) Heat. and not anything else.

It's a slang term for a woman who sleeps around. So yeah, it's like the white UK version of 'ho'...

EDIT: After not hearing the track for about 2 years, I can definitely say that it still is 'Come On You Slags'

It's come you slags.

Slag does mean woman of disrepute but it's also used against men. "Come on you slags" might also be used to provoke a group of men you were trying to start a fight with - as in " come on then, slags! I'll take you all on!". It's doesn't make much sense but it's just a way of insulting a bloke in more interesting way. You're a girl but a particularly contemptible girl.

In the track it can be taken two ways. Firstly as a general provocation to the listener(s), as if to say 'c'mon, let's go mental, let's 'ave it!' and secondly as a call to literally slaggy women such as those sampled.

However, without the samples only the first meaning would make any sense in terms of British slang. "Come on you slags" is in my experiece not a phrase directed towards women. It certainly wouldn't get you any sweet lovin'. And men don't generally offer to fight groups of women so that doesn't scan either.

it's just a bit a of a laugh and an insult turned into a rallying cry and then twisted further back to it's literal meaning.

Yeah, the whole 'you slaaags' thing got popular with The Sweeney in the whole 'Come on then.......' style meaning of it. But yeah as you say as well Mr. James just sticks stuff in for a laugh, there's no deep meaning to be extracted from it all.

i thought the "night" thing was weird enough

but..."i want sex" ??????

I know :ok: And most of these folks can apparently tell between like a 256kbps mp3 and a FLAC, yet can't seem to actually hear words properly.

Troll? Or just a slag?

Just a teen-angsty troll, look back at his posts...

I guess im not used to british accents or something because it sounds nothing like "come on you slags" I hear three syllables. "I" (Flanging up) "want" "Sex". And it is a porno sample.

You see I think this is it, and I think that this was the same thing with the whole heat/night thing as well. All the U.K. folks knew it was 'heat' but the U.S.-ers were the whole campaigners for 'Night'. It probably doesnt help that old Richie uses the South Western vocal twang as well, us local farmer peoples can't talk proper like, innie be :flower:

Ok, I guess Ill buy it, but I won't really think about it that way ever, even if Richard were to come out and tell me personally. Whats the HEAT/NIGHT thing. Oh beetles? I figured it out by typing. I always though heat. And in "4" I always though "pretty good" "yeah", not "richard" "yeah".

PS- Those beetles do come out in the heat. I used to have a huge problem with them. They were called "Carpet Beetles" i think, but they were in my kitchen (food).
