Compilation album for Charity

I started a thread a few days ago to see if anyone would be interested in submitting a track for an album, quite a few wanted to join in so I made this official thread!

OK, so this is the charity - First Stage Underground the idea is, you give them tracks, they sell them through digital media outlets like - eMusic, Thumbplay, iTunes, Napster, Last.FM, Amazon Mp3, Spotify & Deezer and all the money goes to Cancer Research.

This is what they say on their Soundcloud page -

Welcome to First Stage Underground and First Stage Recordings, the UK's first 100% non-profit making Charity Based record labels.

FSU and FSR are fledgling Electronic Music record labels with a difference. We are a platform for both signed and unsigned artists to host their music for digital download via our download store. Nothing new there I hear you say, but here’s the twist!

Being totally charity based, all of our supporting artists have donated their music to our label free of charge and have agreed to waiver their earnings from download sales with a view to the label making regular donations to our nominated charity Cancer Research UK.

We operate with a full transparency policy with all our supporting artists. On a monthly basis, each contributor receives an electronic copy of the itemised sales statement received direct from our Distributor and Download Store. No money changes hands, our Distributor pays all generated Royalties directly in to the bank account of Cancer Research UK.

So if your a producer and your vibe is experimental, minimal, house, cross over, acid house, Dubstep, drum and bass, braindance, one step, two step or infact any step we would love to hear from you! Send us your tracks via our drop box and drop us a message and we will get back to you!

Alternatively, if your looking for the newest most cutting edge electronic music then click the download links to be taken to our store!

We are offering a new concept for people to purchase electronic music. A concept that supports a good cause.

Thank you for your support, The First Stage Team.

For further information on any of our arists or booking information please contact - firststagerecordings@gmail.com

Right, I created a Soundcloud page that you can send your track to, privately - Here. Myself and the other 2 judges will vote which tracks will make it onto the album. The compilation will be 14 tracks long.

If anyone would like to do some artwork for this, it would be wonderful! I suppose I could make a poll and we could all vote which will be the artwork.

Right, your track needs to be in wav format and mixed how you want it to sound, there won't be any mastering done as it would cost too much, which would be pointless. The track you send must not be released anywhere else due to copyright stuff...

For those who don't have Soundcloud(WHY NOT???) you can upload your track to yousendit, for files under 100mb, OR files bigger than 100mb can be uploaded to sendspace. NO megaupload shit please.

This is a great charity and I for one would be so happy if we could raise some money for it. WE CAN DO IT YOU GUYS!!

Deadline is 1st July so get cracking!

I am very up for this. Cancer effects everyone eventually, and I would like to submit a positive sounding track that hopefully can give people hope! A friends dad passed away during the week, so I will compose something suitable soon and upload it. Even if the track is not used, tis a very good idea and I will be purchasing the results.

That's really sad Fletch mate.

I have just spoken to Eric who runs THEMrecords and he is also going to organise a compilation of the artists off the label! Which is excellent news! Some really talented people on it!

WATMM resident cancer survivor, here.

You KNOW I'll be submitting to this. I'm going to take this opportunity to name a track after my least favorite (but most effective) chemo agent.

I promised myself I would one day...

i'll submit a track for consideration, a mate's dad just died of the big C which is gutting, wake on friday.

...when it says the track can't be released anywhere else, does it mean not released *for sale* or straight up not released at all, even to yer myspace?

Myspace, YLC, Soundcloud etc are all absolutely fine. But definitely no tracks that are for sale, and if possible not even net label releases either, unless, I suppose, you have consent from the label owner or you do a remix of the track. Just to save all the messing about, I'd really prefer original tracks.

If people want to upload their tracks to soundcloud and get some feedback before submitting them then that is fine, just make sure you make your track non-downloadable, and maybe take it down once you are happy enough with it.

Thanks for this everyone, its shaping up to be amazing already after the few tracks I've heard.

Yeah, I thought that would be enough time. It takes around 8 weeks to get it released too, I believe.

Depends how we go on though I suppose, if there aren't enough tracks I will extend the deadline. Though, I think we should be OK.

I think it goes without saying, but please keep the WATMM name or association off this compilation. No problems with promoting or organizing it on here though. Thanks!
