Cornish Acid

We've been through this in the RDJA thread.

I love Cornwall. I love Acid. I love acid from Cornwall. I do not like Cornish Acid.

This is the thread where we discuss Cornish Acid in great detail, and you try to convince me why it's good, and I maintain my aversion to it like horrible sticky smears of brown goo.

(Also, if someone would be so kind as to photoshop me a jar of Marmite into a jar of Cornish Acid with Richard's gurning face on it, that would be most wonderful.)

It's got a great groove, and it makes me get up and dance, but if you don't get it then what's the point of trying to convince you? You like it or you don't, move on.

I guess I just keep hoping that someone will give me the key to unlocking appreciation of this track.

Cause otherwise RDJA is such a perfect album for me. I just wish I appreciated ye olde Cornish Acid more.

I think it's the first track from this album I liked (although we're going back a while here so I could be misremembering). It seems quite accessable: nice acidline, relatively laid back percussion compared to the rest of the album at least. Maybe it's too mainstream for you? :D Being the most accessable probably means it's the first for people to like, then as their tastes mature, the first for them to not like?

Then again, I like Marmite. :)

not really sure why i'm saying this - but it's not that accessible is it? a weirdly syncopated rhythm, mutant stange acid line and a couple of eerie background notes... would've thought all the other tracks with kind of pretty naive melodies would be more obvious.

I'm pretty sure Cornish Acid seemed pretty accessible to me way back when I first heard this album, at least compared to most of the other tracks. Thinking about it now, Fingerbib and Goon Gumpas are a bit more laid back with even less manic percussion so maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention back then. :)

Nah, it's the least accesible track on the album, I think.

It's just the way that everything is synchopated, I think - gives the impression that the drums and the acid line are just slightly out of beat with one another and I find it really hard to listen to unless I pay attention to it. It doesn't have that beautiful, transcendent, airy feel that the rest of the album has.

I think I dug this track right away when I first bought the album, cause it reminded me of the Nitzer Ebb and Front242 stuff i listened to lots in the 80s.

its in my top ten reasons why aphex is great, if you don't liken it then suck my dick

You suck.

Its a fooking great track.

Next you'll be telling me you dont like Corn Mouth. More time spent listening and less admiring his hair perhaps?

You gonna explain "Corn Mouth" / Carn Marth or is that some weird old injoke I don't get coz I'm a n00b?

(Corn Mouth is a His Name Is Alive track, I thought.)

It's amazing how someone can count a song as "part of the top ten reasons Aphex is great" but can't come up with a more convincing reason for me to like it than "suck my dick" - really, thanks, I'll pass on that one.
