Could you guys describe the album you recommend?

When I created this I tried to add a poll, but couldn't find the option.... Is there a way to add it now?

I'm impressed at how big Autechre is (based on how many replies this has recieved, and the speed at which they were recieved).... Even big bands like Porcupine Tree have much slower forums...

I wouldn't think that somone with this style of music could be so popular (no offence intended)....

Envane's tracklist is posted in reverse order (first track, Goz Quarter, appears lowest) in his post, is all.

It's a really cohesive/coherent EP and it touches upon everything that was great about mid-period AE. Makes a great starting point for branching out and exploring the rest of their discography, I think. Also, it's really fucking pretty.

sorry for such enthusiastic reply.

but there is a wide range of prices and opportunities, and if you eventually grab everything, then you didn't lost a thing, you definitely won something.

but you should start with Garbage and Envane eps and Tri Repetae lp. :music:

Is there a specific store I should be using?

Do you remember the name of the songs that you heard and liked? Those are all fantastic Ep's, but relatively different, so this might help narrow to the Ep which would make the most logical starting point.

Garbage EP is my favorite of the bunch. More on the ambient meditative side of Autechre, at least in contrast to Envane which other people are recommending (which features heavier beats and the more hip hop style of Ae).

I only listened to a couple, so no...

if it helps, Most music I like is progressive rock (e.g. Porcupine Tree) but that's not very similar....I like 65daysofstatic...I suppose that's kinda similar...

I don't really like ambient music that much...sounds like I'd like Envane more....

If someone could do a little description of each album, that would be brilliant...that might be a bit much to ask though :D

and what a fine choice that was. altough they have some extensive rock work, their ambient pieces are beautiful.

i would recommend also Steve Roach, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Brian Eno, Vidna Obmana, Biosphere, Pete Namlook (as well as a bunch of FAX label records), Mixmaster Morris (aka Irresistible Force) and some Vangelis.

you may proceed now with the voyage through the land of ambient music.

steven Wilson said that "Atem" was the greatest ambient record made, so i downloaded it...

I'll go in chronological order (oldest to newest released)

These are only my opinions. If there's one thing you'll find about Ae fans, it's that we have widely varying opinions on their best stuff, and on their work in general. It's great for discussion, which is one of the reasons this forum is so strong!

Anti EP:

It has an interesting story behind it (statement on anti-rave legislation in Britain in the 90's - put the EP name in google and most reviews will mention the meaning behind this ep). Showcases older style Ae, which I love, but may not be a good starting point if you're looking for a single release with the best bits Autechre has to offer

Basscadet - can't comment, I don't have it. But it's remixes loosely based on the fantastic track Basscadet from their first LP Incunabula

Anvil Vapre:

I personally think this would be the best to start out with, it's nestled right in the Tri Repetae era of Autechre, which is quite accessible. If I had to describe the era in a very distilled manner, expect "clicky" beats and industrial kicks over smooth melodies. Will give you a good variety, from the classic Second Bad Vilbel (watch the music video directed by Chris Cunningham when you get the chance) to a nice mix of beats and melodies in the other tracks, Second Scepe being my favorite.

Garbage:

Begins with the 15 minute Garbagemx36, which can only be described as EPIC. Seriously of their best beats from this era. There is a beautiful meditative piece with a clicky rhythm over relaxing synths. And it ends with an amazing track as well, an epic piece with rising synth swells. Very beautiful, emotional release

Cichlisuite:

Awesome release from the Chiastic Slide era, which is one of my favorites! Generally punchy upbeat rhythms, with more melodic backing than stuff off Anvil Vapre. I generally prefer Chiastic Slide and think of these as B-sides, but that is probably more of a statement of me loving Chiastic Slide than a statement on this ep.

Envane:

All four of these songs are amazing, they bridge the gap to more experimental LP5 era Ae. Most consistently awesome of the bunch, as all four tracks have a whole lot of depth to them. Punchy, has a wide range of emotion. Get this one and bump it in your car and feel like a badass who listens to awesome music.

In conclusion, you can't go wrong with any of these. lol.
