has anyone heard of this film? or seen it? its from 2008, and i hadn't heard a thing about it until now.

the reason I've come to this film, if you look at the poster carefully, the soundtrack was done by a Jackson Tennessee Fourgeaud.

god, i wish.

i can barely find information on the movie, but nothing on the soundtrack.

can't beleive a Jackson release would go under the radar.

watched it last night.

i don't want to give anything away cos it's definately worth a watch but i wouldn't say i enjoyed it at all. it's a depressing watch...

graphic violence and mindless brutality throughout, it's well shot and the young soldiers are convincingly deranged... it portrays the grim reality of a guerilla rebel army over-throwing the government somewhere in africa... could be sierra leone, could be any other african country for all you know.

music doesn't actually feature too heavily apart from a couple of scenes where it's used to great effect but the most powerful musical parts are the war cries of the young army...

it's uncomplicated but thought provoking as fuck.

watch it but it's only 5.5/10

I have no idea but I think this could be tangentially related...

I heard a horrific piece on BBC World News about this Bishop somewhere in Africa who is running a boys reformatory home for child soldiers and the shit this Bishop talked about...I mean, I'm not Christian but if all that jazz turns out to be true, this guy deserves to be in like "Heaven VIP" for his efforts. The interviewer asked, "what sort of problems do you have at the home?" Bishop: "well, lots and lots of fighting, very disturbed sleeping--lots of crying out and nightmares, sexual abuse of one another and unfortunately the death of some because, well, these boys were trained to kill and the things they've seen make it very difficult". The interviewer was fucking incredulous--you could hear it in his voice--and he just said, exasperated "is there any hope for these boys after what they've been through"? and the Bishop was just all "you gotta try" kinda talk. It was chilling....

definately related...

i could elaborate but i'd spoil the film for backson or anyone else interested.

this film shows graphical accounts of the ways children are recruited, used and false promised, all for political means they're too young to understand. it reminded me of the armed forces using animals to explode bombs years ago... loyal, obedient... expendable.

sounds interesting. i wont be able to find it here i don't think, but I'll keep an eye out just in case.

and the soundtrack is nothing special? hmmm, i susected as much. I'd still like to pick it up so that my Jackson collection can be enhanced, but is i mostly just ambient or mood stuff that anyone could do?

i think the soundtrack is intentionally sparse to let the continuous shouting, screaming, gun-fire and raw violence dominate.

like i say, there was a couple of very effective musical moments which were really hard hitting... probably moreso due to the complete absence of music throughout the rest of the film.
