Oni Ayhun

The excellent MNML SSGS blog has made available a podcast of Oni Ayhun's first live performance, at last April's Donau Festival in Krems, Austria. After releasing three EPs anonymously and with little fanfare, this and a few other in-person appearances have indeed confirmed what some suspected: Oni Ayhun is Olof Dreijer from The Knife.

How funny! i just found this myself not two days ago. was listening to OAR003B on the way home today.

I was about to jump right in and say that you should get rid of the subtitle, but its confirmed is it? I can see the connection, but i thought it was just fanboys being fanboys and picking the first low-key Knife-influenced artist to call Olof. If it is indeed him, then its good too see he's still releasing.

Although I still eagerly await the next official Knife release.

Well according to that article it's him, I've only read that they think it's him because of the sound of it and that the group decided to go their separate ways for a while to start with their individual project, for Karin it was the more artistic way as you can see with her performance and with Olof he went on and experimented more with sound rather then live performances and so on.

But who knows.. that article might be bogus, i will search some more later today about it.

so far I'm happy since they both release proper quality music, just by them selfs :)

His OAR-series is great music. Very special, very emotional and still industrial. I have to check all the remix work in here and his Honest Jon's African stuff...

It's rare for me to get evangelical about a record, to genuinely wonder whether someone has heard something and why haven't you heard it oh-my-God-you-have-to-hear-it and tell me what you think and…you don't like it?...well, I can understand that, but you're wrong, you know? But that's exactly what Oni Ayhun's new 12-inch did to me when I got about 90 seconds into the first listen. It's at that moment that a screech interrupts a perfectly normal—for Oni Ayhun, at least—groove. The beat continues unabated, as if nothing has happened, but I looked around my apartment when it happened. Had something fallen? And then there it was again. In time with the music. And then what sounded like trash cans being played like cymbals. And then unholy moaning, voices reaching up from the grave. And then, and then, and then.

some of it is INCREDIBLE (OAR-003A in particular) but some is a bit boring.
