Autechre wiki

Hey.

I'm new here - been lurking for some time on this forum, loved it and so tonight I decided to sign up.

I'm writing this to let you know about a little idea I had, and honestly I believe this is the only board I know where someone could be interested in what I'm going to say now.

Basically, a few days ago I was thinking that there's quite a lot of info about Autechre that needs to be put in some kind of archive - interview links, live sets info / mp3s, pics, found newsgroup messages, chat logs and so on. I've seen this forum already has plenty of stuff actually, but I think it would be cool to organize everything in one big place, with categories, stuff listed in chronological order etc, but most of all, with the ability to edit stuff easily. Well, basically a wiki.

Of course, in order to create and maintain a wiki, collaboration is the key. I've seen some real hardcore Ae fans on this board who may be interested in this project, and that's why I'm posting about it here.

Some days ago I got this domain: http://vletr.mx. I set up a vanilla MediaWiki install and so far it's almost completely empty.

Now, I have web programming experience and can handle the technical side, but, as for the rest, of course the content should be the result of collaborative work - that's the point of a wiki after all.

So, here's my question: what do you think about this? I want to make it clear I'm not posting this thread in order to spam the website or something, I just want to get feedback on this idea and, if it's any good, to start this project with the help of anyone interested into it.

Well, looking forward to hearing your ideas and opinions about this. Thanks!

I don't think I can contribute with my close to none knowledge of this band, but I definitely think this is a great idea and hope articles will start popping up. I frequent the BOC wiki a lot and it would be wonderful to have an equally detailed database for this band (just like any other, for that matter).

I can at least check the articles for general coherence et cetera every now and then, if time permits.

i have looooads of experience on wikipedia and helped set up lostpedia and a little bit of bocpages.

imma be ripping into this :emotawesomepm9:

two thoughts:

the previous owner of 'the words of autechre' seems to have donated it to a chap who has wikified the lot, but not done much else. you should contact him. http://autechre.wetpaint.com/

have you contemplated moving to wikia?

altough the little information i possess is almost irrelevant in the context of what some members here know, i do support your idea and will be glad to help in what is necessary. go for it !

Why that particular domain name?

I think it's a wondeful idea, btw.

I think it's an awesome idea! I think I know less about ae than a lot of ppl here, so not sure if I'd be able to help... but it certainly sounds like a place I'd like to look around while at work :emotawesomepm9:

I'd be down with this. Nothing to contribute, really, as I listen and could really give fuckall about anything other than the next release date/show/fake/bootleg... but it's a rockin' idea.

Hey guys, I'm glad you like the idea.

As for the domain, I just thought it was plain cool. It is good looking (at least based on my taste, but if you like how Autechre titles look you should agree with me), and I just love domain hacks anyway. Also I think it sounds and looks better than something like www.autechrewiki.org, but that's just my taste.

Anyway it shouldn't be that important. By the way, I'm gonna try and come up with a decent skin this weekend, add a few important templates and write some articles I have on my todo list. Any other questions, just ask! :)

That's a really good idea. If only there was some sort of website that catered to fans of IDM, specifically Warp artists in general.. Something that had all the info, plus rare tracks, pics, bio's and all that stuff.. Something you could put a message board on. You could even have some sort of general banter section.

I swear Joyrex has mentioned something along those lines once in a while. And something about T-shirts too.

Seems like a good idea to me. I have loads of interviews etc so if there are any holes in the timeline there I should be able to dig out some things to make it more complete.

Having a site with all of it in one place would be a hell of a lot easier than having to scroll through hundreds of pages of topics and use a search function that doesn't work very well in the hopes of finding something. :trashbear:

This be true. And if you decide to ask for help (especially if you are new) in the wrong way, you'll be flamed and told to read the rules.

This hasn't happened to me yet, though :D

lol i totally fucked up that navbar

i'll fix it tomorrow

Any news about the navbar? :)

By the way, I uploaded the new skin, still not definitive, but it's a start and I guess it fits better than the default one.

I've also added a quick list of the entire Ae discography in the front page, so at least people visiting the site will know that the pages are there.

As soon as there's some content we can think about a structure for it. I added some section names in the menu, if you have any advice about those just write here, thanks. :)

so far the wiki looks very good. nice layout and overall design and the current organization seems to be a nice starting point

.

i would love to see [in the future] lots of details, stories, about production, on the making and curiosities of the various releases, that could be a result of the contribution of a lot of the members here, as they own pretty much information on ae.

Hmm, works on my iPhone though. That's weird. :cisfor:

vletrmx. cool.

isn't that the Plaid remix of Ae on the Warp10 remixes comp? ..if my memory serves me correctly.

wicked track. and good idea here.

nice one :)

ah, obviously not being the biggest Ae fan in the world i only remembered the name as being the Plaid rmx, or vlet rmx..

silly me!

i'm not too good with names. especially not the weird ones Ae come up with. and i don't think anybody could remember them all or pronounce them all.

but if you'd like to try and impress me, six, then go ahead.... of course i'd have to believe every word you said, tho.... cos i don't give much of a fuck about names and haven't taken a lot of notice over the years.
