get a nice groovebox, like an electribe or a yamaha dx200. you can have guilty pleasure jamz all night on such boxen. four parts, drop them in and out, mess with filters and fx.... add some aux send delight via your mixer... nice escape from the tedium of software composition.

alternatively, get a piano. a real piano.

I use renoise. Can someone explain to me how reaktor works I have it but have no idea what to do.... I heard you can do amazing things with it.

But yeah I was in the same boat. First time using FL or Renoise I was like "wtf". Now I'm just like, "oh I didn't know that could do that".

get five12 numerology! it's fucking wicked, can be used with hardware, vst instruments and samples and is the most fun I've had with some music software in years.

WOAH! thanks for the tip, ill try it out...no i wont, MAC only.

*mandatory Jeskola Buzz pimping*

But yeah, other then that, I agree with those who mentioned taking a break from electronic music to learn an entirely new instrument/style. In my own experience, every time I've learned a new instrument it's entirely changed the way I look at composition. I want to learn how to play drums next because I imagine it would really help my rhythm building.

You should really get away from electrionics for a while maybe. Take some piano lessons, or guitar lessons. It will completely broaden the way you see and understand music.

Don't hesitate, do it now. A dustbin is more of a musical instrument than a computer. Okay, exaggeration, but I'd recommend using them as little as you possibly can. Unless you actually do want to sound like everyone else, which is fair enough.

If you think that then you simply aren't using computers cleverly.

not really interested in being clever.

So...making music that doesn't sound like everyone else does not equal being clever?

But the whole hardware vs software debate is even more tired than the analog vs digital debate so it's probably not a good idea to get into it again.
