don't remember when we did a thread like that for the last time (if at all), lets do it again.

that's not a top 10-100 albums exactly (although it could easily overlap), but more like: albums that have changed your life, expanded your consciousness, changed your taste completely, made you a better person..stuff like that, not necessarily albums you listen and come back to the most, something you could list without making much effort.

this is sort of chronological:

radiohead - ok computer

radiohead - kid a

autechre - confield

lali puna - scary world theory

tortoise - standards

sunburned hand of the man - headdress

shalabi effect - trial of st orange

endtroducing is one of the most incredible, innovative releases of the 90s. it was the first album ever created consisting solely of samples from other albums. i can't get enough of it.

Draft 7.30 and most everything Pink Floyd did before Meddle and that includes Meddle.

Also No Pussyfooting no other piece of music has invoke such a pure, organic, and so human a response in myself as Swatiska Girls has. Just a personal favorite for many reasons I know it may come off as cheesy but shucks no fucks given.

it doesn't matter whether its the first thing you hear by RDJ because it's some of his best material. and it's easily my most listened to RDJ record, hence life-changing. I probably have 500 plays of synthacon.

Orbital - Middle of Nowhere (the 3rd cd I ever bought, mostly listened to dance/trance before this. It seemed weird at first, and being raised as a Christian I didn't like that there was a sample saying "God damn you!" hehe... the whole thing made me feel uneasy at the time, I didn't know exactly what to make of it)

Orbital - Insides (although also seemed weird, I felt like it was way easier to swallow)

Autechre - LP5 (Orbital is usually listed as IDM but I think Autechre is a better example. The first Ae I ever got and it is mind blowing. I still find it mind blowing)

Orbital - Snivilisation (Was my favourite album for many years. I still love it of course. There's something special about it that I can't put my finger one. Orbital never used particularly unique sound design, but somehow it has a really unique feel to it, and this is the strangest album of all of them)

Radiohead - Kid A (opened my mind to music that wasn't just instrumental and electronic... kind of like the opposite to what this album did for most people... basically it started me listening to rock music)

Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Symphonic Suite Akira (I adore this album just for it's music, and it also made me interested in world music (something which I've yet to properly explore) but it was also given to me as a present by a very special friend and a particularly special time in my life)

Boredoms - Super Ae (this is another mind blowing experience... I heard nothing like it before. I feel like it was the last unexplored territory for me, everything else to me sounds like something else I've heard, I haven't had a mind blowing experience like this since)

Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out (You know... I don't even own this album... but anyway... it was something that I listened to A LOT during another very special time in my life, it basically reminds me of the initial thrill of film making, some of that spark as died out for me, haven't worked on any of my own animation in a long time)

Some others worth mentioning:

Wisp - About the Things that Never Were

Modex (Rooftop Access) - Robo-Tripper

Animal Collective - Feels

Guest disparaissant

pixies - surfer rosa

this one for me too! i was like 12 or 13 and my parents decided they wanted to go see my grandparents out in utah and for some fucking stupid reason we took the train. i had my CDs all stolen on the first fucking day of the trip which meant 3 full days without music, so at the first long stop we had i begged my dad to walk with me to a music store where i ended up buying surfer rosa and just immediately fell in love with it. i ended up quitting piano and playing guitar entirely because of this album.

a few others off the top of my head in a vague chronological order:

nirvana - in utero (i've definitely outgrown nirvana but this album definitely changed the kinds of music i listened to!)

NoFX - white trash, two heebs and a bean

the get up kids - four minute mile

hot water music - forever and counting

indian summer - science 1994

the smiths - the queen is dead

the cure - disintegration

depeche mode - some great reward

new order - low-life

le tigre - le tigre

autechre - tri repetae

aphex twin - SAW 1

max tundra - mbgate

bat for lashes - fur and gold

i could probably go on for a while longer but i'll spare you

edit: oh man as soon as i hit submit i see someone posted boredoms - super ae, that was definitely a huge one. also sonic youth - goo, which got me into sonic youth, which got me exploring noise, which sort of led up to boredoms. i bought goo simply because i fucking loved the cover art, haha.
