Next week, Tri-Angle Records will be releasing the debut self-titled EP from San Francisco's oOoOO. People are calling this witch house, but we're still not quite sure that term actually means anything, so let us say that the music is spooky, driven by lo-fi synths and drum machines, and usually features some awfully pretty vocals of the ethereal/ghostly variety. Comparisons to current XLR8R cover stars Salem are frequent, and oOoOO does tread in some similarly dark sonic territory, but the sounds here are a lot cleaner and more melodic. See for yourself, as the oOoOO EP will be streaming in its entirety right here on XLR8R.com for the next week.

oOoOO is by far my favorite of the so-called "witch house" producers. i like what i heard on xlr8r, can't wait for the whole ep.

burnout eyess is lovely, really digging that one. all i'd really heard prior to this was the split single with white ring and the white ring track way overshadowed the oOoOO one, but this is great.

yea sedsumting and hearts are just killer. i too think oOoOO is the best so far in this witch house / drag thing. that white ring tack on that split is really nice but sounds exactly like salem. seems like oOoOO is the only one not using that same basic kick, high hat and clap on every song.

:whistling: oOoOO ...oOoOO ......oOoOO

well played troOoOOn

with all the hype this artist is getting, it's suspicious that they claim they live in san francisco. how the hell are they not playing constantly locally right now ? it seems like they/him should be getting tons of offers even tour offers.

the only local show i could find oOoOO playing at the last time i looked was a modest DJ gig at a modest SF club, no other shows lined up

loving the "witch house" thing or whatever you wanna call it. much more my speed than dubstep or whatever the flavor is this month. unless of course, the flavor this month is witch house, in that case... rock on!

listening to a lot of SALEM, oOoOO, Zola Jesus (though not technically in the scene, she fits well), White Ring, Balam Acab, Pwin Teaks, //TENSE//, etc.

This is what witch house sounds like in a live context.

yea, this is just horrible beyond anything that could be imagined. i like some of the salem record too and im really pissed i ever watched this.

that being said oOoOO is leagues apart from salem as far as i am concerned from a writing and production standpoint

truth be told, the internet age means that bands like Salem are veiwed under a microscope when they should have flourished in obscurity until one day, years after breaking up, they are discovered and name checked as a major influence by a new wave. that would have been a better context for their style.
