As a big fan of US Hip-Hop during the golden years of Public Enemy, NWA, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, I kind of lost interest when it became more about the money, mainstream success and high production values.

Step forward to 1999 and an album that past me by at the time - MF Doom Operation: Doomsday. In fact I only got to know DOOM by 2004 when he released Madvillain with Madlib and for me it was a real revelation mixing the abstract lyrics of Kool Keith with the production I've been craving since RZA when he was top of his game.

Still don't listen to much US Hip-Hop but this guy is just the best, pioneering the US underground since 93 and his period between 2003-2005 was just amazing.

So what are you're favourite Dumile albums? My top five is:

1) King Gedorah - Take me to your leader

2) Madvillain - Madvillainy

3) MF Doom - Operation Doomsday.

4) Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain

5) DOOM - Born like this.

Anything I'm missing? Especially pre 1999 since I've not heard any of that stuff yet.

My current fav

i love Doom, but i dont see how that King Geedorah album could be ranked number one. there's like two really good songs and the rest is just pretty good. Madvillainy and Vaudeville Villain are my top two.

i wonder how many of Doom's fans are like me: people who basically dont listen to hiphop, but love Doom.

i used to listen to hip-hop almost exclusively, but since about 2000 i have listened sparingly... but i also listen to doom sparingly; the only mc i'm all about is kool keith

Was just going to mention that, great album. Rapp Snitch Knishes with Mr. Fantastik is awesome (he's also on the King Geedorah album). We need more Fantastik!

Madvilliany is still the best imo.

Definitely.

Mind your manners, or be R.I.P. Local bartenders called him Bar Fly V.

They didn't know his face, but by his name, they knew him. Racist against rappers, they all look the same to him.

He don't appear too drunk, and let a stare turn into a "Yeah you punk!"

Love those remixes. Also downloaded this one from itunes back in the day, I think it's a Madlib remix/alternate mix

Doom is one of the few rappers I follow closely and first I saw live. He's an underrated producer too, I even talked to a guy at a party who didn't like his rapping much but said his beats were legit. Now I think he's brilliant at both, but I found that to be an interesting compliment from someone who wasn't a Doom fan. Love this beat for example...
