Guess the synth

Just a bit of fun really. 2 audio files. 1 with a single oscillator set to square wave. Patch settings as similar as possible on each synth. The second file has the same patch settings with the synths used in the same order but this time they are triggered by a simple arp pattern playing a C over 4 octaves.

Synth used (in no particular order of course);

DSI TETR4 (Analogue DCO)

Korg MS2000 (Digital VA synth)

GMedia ImpOSCar (VST soft synth)

Spectral Audio Neptune 2 (Analogue VCO)

Propellerheads Thor (Reason soft synth)

Which is which? (synths in same order in both files)

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

5th

last is tetra because it's digitally controlled -> discrete filter jumps? i dunno if DCO shit still does that, but my juno alpha one certainly does. that means one must be the neptune. i could cheat and go listen to my ms2000, but i am thinking it is #4.

gonna try this test when i get home however the DSI stuff isn't the best example of your typical DCO as ole Dave has put in a very convincing VCO drift and when i had a prophet08 the DCO's on that sounded better than the VCO's on an Xpander

the VCO vs DCO thing only comes into play with proper discrete circuits imho but I'll be back for the pepsi challange later on :)

brilliant idea

awesome hearing the differences between synths like that

my guess was this

tetra

imposcar

ms2000

thor

neptune2

pretty surprised how far off i was. i thought the first and last def sounded the most "analog."

the neptune sounded like shit in the first then sounded great in the second

dunno if you've posted answers (i'm not looking until after I post), I like doing these things

1. Imposcar (very vauge...hard to tell, nice job on that)

2. Tetra (100% I know this sound cuz of the wet detail)

3. Neptune (sounds the dullest and neptune always sounded kind of more on the mid/low spectrum like minimoog from sounds i've listened to)

4. Ms2k (positive! know this + electribes which are based on it... that cold but crsip nasaly filter)

5. Thor

I'm unfamiliar with Thor so that one could throw a spike in the wheel. I dunno if you're using the filter drive on imposcar or not, and i never use it without a little so perhaps that last one is imposcar but i've never noticed that stepping before so I'm going to go with thor. 1st clip is hard to tell.

edit: HA! I was close. Got Thor and imposcar mixed up. That's crazy, I usually only use Imposcar for weirdness and filter drive so boo on me. I'm very suprised at the tail end of the #5 imposcar square wave clip.
