I was thinking about this kind of thing recently and how you could navigate a football match in realtime, just sort of flying around the play like a videogame. You'd just need to strategically place a few of these at various locations around the pitch.

Funny that you mentioned that as I just watched this clip of something similar and other tech stuff Japan would be offering if they won their bid for the World Cup in 2022.

the telemundo version of this during world cup coverage was so hilariously low tech... trying to find video of it now...

I can't believe they have this cool tech for the xbox and all they could come up with was that lame ass shit.

 

Edit: the lame ass shit being the wii knock off games for the kinect launch, not the posted video.

Surely he would be able to solve the camera's "blind spot" with two kinects?

 

Yeah, I thought that. But hasn't the Kinect already got two eyes? Is that how it perceives depth, or is that only due to the dot-distances?

If I understood correctly it reads infrared dots that it projects, through an infrared camera to create the 3D data. I don't think it would work if there were two infrared projectors casting dots in the same area. I could be wrong.
