Secret Chiefs 3 is complete genius music. Trey takes a long time to make this stuff but it's always of astonishingly high quality.

Went to a metal night in Oxford last night, my mates bro plays bass for "Hellbent & Hammered" (lol) so we went along to support. I dont usually listen to this type of music but for a random night out with my mates I got quite into it by the end and definitely appreciate what they were doing.

Quite enjoyed the night actually, the headline act were called Taste My Eyes and they were pretty wicked (I was proper pissed by that point).

Anyone into Genghis Tron? I find them to be a pretty awesome combination of metal and electronic...

Loved their first album, paid less attention since, but solid fucking outfit nonetheless...

Intense! I'm about ready to go on another metal binge, and this sounds like a potential album to add to the list.

I listened to Cephalic Carnage's Mislead by Certainty again yesterday/today, and it's still getting better with every listen. Abraxis of Filth is fucking epic. Sorry to keep going back to these guys, but every time I relisten to this album I feel the need to plug it again.

What the fuck happened to Devin Townsend? Everthing he's done under this new Devin Townsend Project alias is complete trash... It's like he completely lost his touch after Ziltoid. Super annoyed. Anyone actually enjoying his new shit?

Addicted was rubbish and Deconstruction was too silly but I think Ki and Ghost are fantastic.

I mean he's never going to be as good as he was for Infinity - Terria - Ocean Machine - City but whaddaya do? Everything changes, people grow...

sounds good but i don't think it's possible to create a more blatant ripoff of king crimson vs. zappa.

I haven't listened to metal for some years. Last thing I was into was Opeth, not sure how I feel about them anymore.

But not too long ago, I stumbled upon Drudkh. And I fucking love them.

I also discovered Walknut.

Fuck yeah.

Also this band called Ygg:

I also like some Austere:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRsofblEK3A

(starting from the part the part where it kicks off at 2:30.. i also like those distant howlings)

Also stumbled upon Negura Bunget. Not bad, but I'm having doubts. I also like Wolves In The Throne Room, but it seems you can't say that or even mention them because of some h-word that people like to throw around.

So I'm looking for bands that sounds similair. Last.fm tags these bands as "atmospheric black metal" but that leads to stuff like Alcest. Yikes.

If you don't know any, you can just recommend me any good black metal or whatever.

(i haven't checked the thread out much because of youtube clusterfucks (to which i may have contributed to))

I'm appreciating metal again, wooh!

I also would like to say that I distance myself from any retarded views/philosophies some of these bands may have  it's just music bro

Ever listen to Withered? Might be right up you're alley... Atmospheric while maintaining heavyness and not going soft like Alcest (Although, personally I really enjoy Alcest.. but I don't consider them metal either more-so "Blackened Shoegaze")

anyways.. check this

Have you heard any Fauna? Echtra? Fearthainne? It's all US black metal with specific flavor. Also see Fell Voices, Ash Borer, Panopticon, The Sun Came Up Upon The Left more doomy stuff like Seidr and Blood Of The Black Owl.

Other than that, at the moment I'm totally in love with Horseback - The Invisible Mountain. Can't wait for their collab with Locrian (out now!)

Horseback ftw!
