I a love a good war documentary, but I can't think of any specific mini-series that stands out. I also enjoyed Jesus Camp but it's so depressing I rather just watch Saved!. There are so many I need to watch, as this thread is reminding me. Man On Wire, Little Dieter Needs to Fly, The Bridge...

Heres an good link for political docus. Its got pretty much every Adam Curtis film made and the Pilger stuff is excellent, but then you knew that =) My link

my ex lived with penelope spheeris for a little bit
weird to think that the person responsible for two of the best punk rock documentaries ever (and decline pt. 2) was also responsible for wayne's world 2, black sheep, and the little rascals movie.

gonna second cosmos
and add in "fuck" which is just fun to watch
and i will make a huge list and post it when i am not drunk.

I'm shocked no one's mentioned the best documentary film of all time, Word Wars.

Also, The Devil and Daniel Johnston.

And i will add my further endorsement to the previously mentioned:
White Light/Black Rain
King of Kong
Dig
Crumb
Grizzly Man
Cosmos
Anvil! The Story of Anvil
Metal: A Headbanger's Journey
Heavy Metal in Baghdad

Oh, and Koyaanisqatsi is fucking incredible. It's arguably a documentary, in which case I retract what I said about Word Wars being the best doc of all time.

Yes I highly recommend this as well! Though it's not necessarily a documentary, Baraka (Ron Fricke worked on the qatsi trilogy) is a very touching piece of pure cinema. Available on netflix instant stream and other sources

The sequel, Samsara, is rumored to be ready sometime this year :boc:

Sweetness! I tried to rent Baraka last night, but the bastards closed an hour earlier than usual. I haven't seen it yet.

some interesting ones:

one of the trippiest filmmakers of all time>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K7J6c5u5tg
the best pkd doc. in fact, one of my favorite bbc arena docs in general>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJehaCfnXHE>>
doc on mark brandon "chopper" reid. easy to find the full version floating around in the usual places. the man is psychotic in the most charming of ways>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afsizgCZgds&feature=related>>
a recent four hour(?) documentary on everyone's favorite provocative, goofy, satanic, fascist, industrialmusicblahblah man, boyd rice. theres a possibility ill end up ordering this. a four hour film on that guy is bound to be at least vaguely interesting>>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaQ-T5CZcZc>>
hubert selby jr: it//l be better tomorrow. great man.>>>full film on hulu.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqvFfj_MKDA

two films that should be watched as a double feature are 'the collectors' and 'new world order' (that ifc doc about alex jones and fringe conspiracy belief.) in 'the collectors' we follow two men whos hobbies entail the collecting and trading of serial killer paraphernalia. artwork, letters, stuff like that. despite a difference in subject matter, both films present a really interesting portait of people living in a great deal of denial, and how that denial goes on to fuel these odd, (and sometimes paranoid) delusions and interests. it must be said tho that 'the collectors' has some particularly tasteless moments.
new world order
the collectors

i really want to see the new errol morris film

Tabloid is a 2010 American documentary film that "tells the story of a former Miss Wyoming whose quest for one true love led her across the globe and onto the pages of tabloid newspapers".

18 with a bullet

http://thepiratebay....ang_Documentary

this is really interesting. for gang members they all seem pretty soft spoken and kind. slappy seems to have turned his shit around and seems llike a genuine dude for a murderous gang member.

i said this not even halfway through the 2 hour 50 minute film so keep that in mind!
