It's a side project of one of the members of the band Gobble Gobble. Can't wait for a proper album from these folks. Seems like I've been hearing that a lot lately with this style. I still like it, though. When I first heard it I was like "sounds like the same boring crap", and I almost clicked away. Fortunately I got distracted and let it play on in the background. By half way through the song my impression of it did a complete 180 and I was really into it. The music by itself wouldn't be that interesting, but the vocals really make it something special. The melody, phrasing, and lyrics of the vocal parts give me chills. I actually went into a long, detailed rant with a friend that could be summed up in this statement. I feel Purity Ring excels at making music that takes a lot of existing (especially recent) styles like witch house and all this trendy retro synthpop into one excellent and distinct formula. But unlike other producers I love who make "samey" tunes (Burial for example) I'm not quite captivated by Purity Ring yet. "Obedear" is the only earworm for me so far.
