Getting from Eugene to San Francisco

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Eugene in the start of August and I would like to visit San Francisco while I'm in the area. Are there any decent ways of transportation you would recommend, perhaps just catch a flight? I would also like a nice place to stay while I'm there, any suggestions?

i would recommend renting a car and driving the coast down to san fran. i made the drive from san fran to eugene a few years ago and it was absolutely beautiful. there are places on the cali coast where you can drive your car right on the beach and camp in the sand for less than $10. we dug out a spot in the sand for a fire, drank some pacificos and cooked some hot dogs.. one of my favorite nights of our 2 month road trip. you'd probably need a tent, though. there are also hotels and motels all over the place the entire way, the cheap ones are usually around $50 a night.

yeah this. amtrak is really the worse for wear these days. even compared to greyhound. which is hard to believe.

a greyhound from eugene to san fran might not be too bad... unless you're stopping in oakland first.

if my memory serves, you wouldn't becoming on the coast, you'd enter california in the valley... AT LEAST YOU'D GET TO SEE VALLEJO
