FWP: finally starting to demarcate the divide between adulthood and that period of irresponsible extended adolescence, mostly spurred by uncomfortable revelations regarding money, solvency, socioeconomic realities, etc...

Finding myself feeling disturbingly nostalgic for cultural ephemera from my teenage years, a time when I, quite literally, had zero concept of the concerns I am now saddled with. Makes me wonder what sort of scope my concerns will encompass a decade down the line and how I'll feel about decisions I've made/am about to make.

I've never listened to any SP album after MCatIS.

Continue to talk about them pls.

What's Adore like?

Adore was actually the album that got me (sort of) into SP, I think largely because I sought music that bridged the gap between rock/pop music and electronica/industrial the way Downward Spiral did... and coming up empty handed for the most part. It's the album where they were without drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, and rather than find a replacement drummer they opted to go the electronic route, with mixed results. There are a few songs with session drummers as well. Anyway, I do think the songwriting suffered somehow, and they lost a lot of the dynamics they had in previously albums, understandably. It's not terrible, but certainly doesn't come together as cohesively as Mellon Collie or SD. It lost some of the magic, but was an otherwise decent effort considering they had just lost such an integral part of the band. The Machina stuff and Zeitgeist "reunion" is pretty embarrassing imo. Oceania era was much better than I expected, but... if it didn't have the historical ties to the SP legacy, it's unlikely it would be of interest to me. Fantastic new drummer though --I think he may have inspired some musical life back into the Corgan.

omg I am going through this exactly. Hence the SP discog listening, which is now being followed up with selections from the NIN catalogue. It's sad times.... although hearing the downward spiral era remixes again is pretty exciting. Bittersweet though, as it really hits home what little I've accomplished with my life.

still dealing with weird bs bladder problem. been to the doctor 3 times, official response = "i dunno lol"

urine test = "i dunno lol". no blood though which is good.

subscribed anti biotics for prostatitis even though an overwhelming majority of cases do not respond to anti biotics. also i don't really have any pain anywhere and from what i've read it can be a painful illness.

basically what happens is i'll have to go pee, and then i pee a very small amount, and when i'm done i still feel like i have to go still. it waxes and wanes - some days i don't have much urgency and feel more or less normal. other days it is quite frustrating and i don't feel any relief at all.. often i have to wake up several times in the night (last night was every friggin 2 hours).

it's made me pretty glum, i just want to know wtf is going on.

This sounds so horrible :(

I have actually thought about how awful this would be to have. Have you seen a specialist, like a urologist, yet? Even more frustrating if so.

I kinda wanna buy a Southern Lord records T-shirt, but I'm slightly worried someone's not gonna know that it's a record label and I'm gonna get called a racist or something.

I just found out Substrata Festival is no longer a thing, due to Irisarri moving to NY. :( I've never even been to Seattle but I had been excited by the fact that a concept like that was successful and thriving in some city.

I can't distinguish Devo from Kraftwerk until the vocals come in... but then I discover which one it is and it all seems so obvious. (It's a recurring thing on this sanza playlist I've been listening to tonight.) Also, I am way drunker than usual, and waking up tomorrow will suck bad.

"let go". what a shitty way of deflecting the responsibility for sacking someone. "I'm not firing you, I'm letting you go, free, into the great wide world of unemployment!"

He was a temp and just got a call from the agency a couple hours after his last shift telling him not to go in. And this is 2 weeks after they said reassuringly, "It's over." Everyone's pissed.

yeah, that's very familiar to me. HR people are particularly cunty with temps. regularly used to get calls telling me not to come in for the day "cos there's no work" when actually there is work but they're doing it on the cheap with less people. being a temp means being treated so, it's the whole reason temping became a thing.

if you're lucky you might land in an organisation that actually values its temps and can recognise their talents and provide them opportunities to progress into permanent employment. I was lucky enough to land in such a place and have a helpful/supportive boss who encouraged me to keep going. fuck knows where I'd be otherwise by now, probably at home in an impoverished drugged-up stupor or dead or something.

this is all very fitting conversation while listening to Sleaford Mods btw.

The pressure got to me in the last stretch of my manual on Tony Hawks' Underground and I fell at around 1,800,000 points. Needless to say I ragequitted and had to have a little lay down after that.

yes! THUG was the best game in the series for getting insane combo points. just keep manualling and grinding and switch positions every second and you get the multiplier up to the stratosphere.

Yeah, exactly. THUG is probably my all-time favourite Tony Hawks game, but that might be because of nostalgia. I can't even remember how many times I've completed the storyline over the years, back on me ol' trusty gamecube. The the gameplay was smooth, the maps were great, and the missions system was satisfying, unlike in THUG2. THPS4 is probably my other favourite TH game, I get colossal nostalgia from the Alcatraz map on it.

hah, that's odd... What albums/tracks are you talking about?

No idea! It was a playlist someone else compiled with a few Devo tracks, a few Kraftwerk tracks, and whatever else. Any time either of those artists came up I knew it was one or the other, but had to check to see which. To be fair, I only went through both discographies once at some point in the last couple years, and was not familiar with either before then, save a few more well known songs. Terrible, I know.

lol this isn't really a fwp but I don't know where else to put it.

For some reason, on any computer I use, the targeted ads that come up are for Muslim or Arab dating sites?

Not only have I never been on a dating site, I've never searched for Muslim or Arab porn or anything even remotely close.

I also have my browsers set to clear history and all other caches when I close the browser.

So why are my home and work computers constantly offering me Muslim and Arab women? wat?

@stephen - isn't there a tinge of Muslim-phobia around your parts (Canada) much like us down south in PartyLand? Maybe it's like the 'if you make fun of gay dudes, you probably want to get pounded by one' thing, but with Muslims - trolling all the phobes out there into a sexual frenzy and/or ideological stupor and contradictory fugue.

Meta troll Psy-ops style...

^ that would be hilarious master trolling by the internet service providers lol.

I think you're right RE the phobia though, particularly in Alberta for whatever reason. Alberta is kind of the Texas of Canada, if that makes any sense.

Refrigerator temperatures aren't bad as long as you're moving.

My FWP is that my retarded 30-second track got more than triple the amount of listens on SC that my more serious seven-and-a-half minute track did, both from last month. I must be doing something wrong.BLABAGBHGHBABABA shut up
