shit man, get good!

fucking american healthcare pulled through for you.  :ok:

fingers crossed. haven't gotten any of the billing statements yet. made sure to ask every doctor who entered the room if they accepted my insurance.

Yeah good things are on the upswing now dude. Would be perfect for the Broken Bones and Hospital Stories thread too.

oh sit where that thread. could blow it up w/the last 2 or so years or hospital visits. or not..

didn't know where else to put this:

had a huge mass removed from my abdomen 1.5 weeks ago. recovery going well. got home from hospital on saturday.

mass is a weird kind of GI Stromal Tumor. no signs of metastasis or lesions etc.

still have to take a medication to greatly reduce the chances it will come back.

met w/oncologist yesterday. cost of the drug is $14,000 per month... but there's a generic version!

generic version is $11,000 per month.

met w/the pharmacological chemo drug nurse who said via some deal w/case managers and my insurance i should be able to get a 'copay card' which means the drug will cost $10 per month.

somehow could possibly go from $14k a month to $10.  w/o insurance i'd be well and truly fucked. hopefully the ACA doesn't get beat up to much next go around.

drug companies are some real dicks... but all things considered this is a best case scenario of a shitty situation.

the mass was 16cm long, 13cm at widest point and tapered down to about 8cm.  gahhh!  no wonder i've had so many weird health issues. my guts were getting pushed around by a big bloody mass.

anyway.. i'm good. feeling better every day. incision healing. abdomen less painful every day.  regular BMs.. i've never talked so much about BMs w/strangers.

It's truly heartbreaking how little of a fuck they give about anyone without money. It's like being forced into the worst casino in history.

when the chemo/pharmacy nurse said "$14,000.. generic is  $11,000" my face sank.. she said and "if we can't get this co pay card established then it can be up to $2000 a month but we should be able to get you this for $10 a month"

i don't even know wtf the copay card is or how one gets it or why it exists etc. if this awesome person who has all the answers didn't work for the oncologist i'd be frantically trying to figure out how to pay for this and what tools are available etc..

i suspect that medicaid would come through for people below the poverty line who are on some form of public insurance etc but no idea what's at their disposal otherwise or how they'd have been treated to this point.  i was really lucky.. the surgeon who happened to be at the hospital is a renowned trauma surgeon.. military trained etc. he's done amputations in the field in afghanistan and written books etc. probably the most humble doctor i've ever met.

the nurses and staff at the hospital were all excellent and looked after me really well.

w/o insurance i'd be sweating it all pretty hard right now and figuring out how to sell my house and live somewhere cheap or how to declare bankruptcy and keep my house and go on a payment plan for what will likely be a big fat bill.

but yeah.. pharma companies are greedy as fuck.

Damn, ignatius... glad everything went well and you're feeling better. But holy shit... $14k a month if it wasn't for that copay card!? That's absolute lunacy. About 6 years ago my grandfather found out he had lungcancer. Luckily, it wasn't that bad so with some minor surgery they were able to fix him up. Then for safety reasons he's getting chemo pills that's keeping it in check and this costs him $0 a month.

Dave Chappelle ... I miss 3/4 of his words and get maybe one joke out of 10. He's mumbling and eating words god dammit, I want to laugh!

*living very sensibly for several months*

*tight schedule, healthy lifestyle, working + saving money*

*feel completely bored & uhappy & disconnected at all times*

*deep down i know all i want to do is dance & do lots of drugs & make music & have weird sex all summer*

*can't really find a compelling reason not to do that other than "not yet, you still need to get shredded first"*

making progress tho the internet calculator says i'm down to sub 12% body fat

i've been going for 40+ hour periods where i just consume coffee & do yoga

and the rest of the time i just eat super clean & lift weights

if i don't eat for the rest of this week i should honestly be at my target

still need to find a way to tap into the goodmusic zone again tho

honestly maybe music wants me to prove i love her more than anything else

what's that music

you want me to do things for you

well

what sorts of things do you want me to do

i also fully recognize that i'm constanty going through these several months long cycles of "getting my shit together // getting disenchanted with how things are going // getting illusions of grandeur // doing something mildly self-destructive in order to chase that dream // it ultimately doesn't go anywhere", so i guess the real fwp is getting old enough to recognize that i've so far never been able to find lasting happiness & great success at either end of the "sensible long term planning//living fully in the moment" spectrum

I discovered this evening that I own 5 Cure CDs.  I knew I had Disintegration and at least one other, but this is ridiculous and way disproportionate to how much I actually like The Cure.  Long story still longer than it needs to be, I will be listening to a lot of Cure in the van this week for better or worse.

Second FWP: the pasta I made tonight was very unsatisfactory.  3.5/10.

Bought some cheese, bread and beer.  Did some illegal downloading so I'd have the appropriate media to go with my substances.  Went to the fridge to grab a cold one as a reward for all that hard downloadin', only to discover I put the cheese in the fridge but not the beer.  I could grab a cold slice of cheese, but it's just not the same.

Someone has apparently been helping themselves to my laundry pods in my drawer in the kitchen. It's a box of 38, I've done 4 washes since I moved here and there are 18 left.

i plugged my phone into my computer to drop music into it and the phone constantly turns on and off, making the chime sound the whole time. cna't drag music on it because of that. it actually crashed my computer twice, just plugging it into computer. wtf

i wonder if it's because of because of the greenify app ... hmm

shiiiat, makes sense

edit: i tried jiggling the usb cord where it connects to the phone and got the on and off thing so perhaps the cord (that came with the phone) is defective

A/V teching an event for some federal lawyer group at the hotel this week... Everything's pre-set for them, so I'm essentially being paid to sit at a table and do nothing for 8 hours a day. Easy yes, but also boring as FUUUUUCK, since this is the only event here this week there's literally nothing else to do.

Need to leave a program running for like 20 hours on a quadcore CPU but I don't have access to one and the ones at uni I only have access to in the morning plus it's a pain in the ass. If anyone here can do a nathan a favor it'd be much appreciated

My computer is  running around the clock. I can help if you want?

More info on the program?

Those are the best kinds of gigs, man. Having a day beforehand to set up is awesome. Waking up at 4am to be at the site by 6am to set up by 10am is such a pain in the ass.

It's a little program I wrote on JAVA/C++ (a tumoral simulation yadda yadda, can provide specifics if you care about this stuff) that will eat all your processing power while it's working, hence the need for a 4 core CPU. You would just have to ideally close as many running programs as you can, double click to run the program, go to sleep, send me the generated txt and delete everything, or keep it as a nice memento, whichever pleases you most
