i can't be a fly on the wall in google's boardroom, but honestly Gordo & oscillik , you can actually tell me with a straight face that the perception of exclusivity is not a part of the marketing behind this? I'm not a social networking pro enough to know if invites are required or not, but to me from the outside and i think to most people who are just hearing about Google + it's meant to seem exclusive (just like gmail was in it's inception)

Dunno, i guess. in the social network movie they make a case that facebook was successful because it was exclusive at first, so yeah. If something new seems limited (even if it isn't) then i guess people will try a bit harder to have the first look at it. But I know that google has used this model since gmail and it hasn't always worked out, sometimes what it acomplishes is overhyping a product by raising the expectations of those who can't get in. I mean, i agree with you but i really doubt the word exclusivity is in google's vocabulary when they talk about how to launch the service. the invite system makes it grow in network shape and scale but also limits it a bit.

I really don't think the exclusivity thing is a ploy to attract more attention. It may be an indirect perception that they welcome, but scalability makes much more sense.

In fact, the exclusivity is hurting Google+ in practice. Nothing hurts a social networking site more than the sounds of crickets chirping. Right now, if you have Google+ and Facebook and you wanna make a juicy comment or share an interesting article/photo, are you gonna share it with 300-400 people or 13?

Yes, some people know (and like) that many people. It's hard to imagine for the average WATMMer, but it's true. lol.

I haven't even checked my Google+ in days. It's cool, but none of my real-life friends are even giving it a shot. Some of them simply don't have a gmail account and don't want another email, and one falls into the paranoid-tin-foil-hat-Skynet-is-coming category(...but the man has an Android phone  ). But most of them just see it as one more thing to have to update/manage/grow, on top of a Facebook, twitter or whatever else they have, and thus they (somewhat rightly) say they can't be arsed.

Its so badass and I already prefer it over facebook, assuming I needed a Social Networking site.

Basically it looks better, functions better, has more features, is integrated with everything (Mail, youtube, google, etc) has its own embedded webcam chat called Hangout and isn't funded by the US Government :D

Also the whole circle thing is way better. Want to post something but don't want your family or boss to see that nasty comment you posted? Just pick the circles you want to share with and those are the only people who will see what you posted :) Then when you want to post something smart, just allow everyone from every circle to see it :D

Shit rocks :)

If you want an invite just leave me your gmail email and I will invite you :)

except that they don't do the same, because with Facebook you're required to add each other if someone adds you. with Google+, it follows the same paradigm as Twitter whereby if you follow someone, the other person is not required to follow you too.

Yes, i know. But i had to let the person know that created a new 2 page google+ thread today that, it still existed grafted on to this thread.n I did contemplate leaving it out for the reason your probably had in mind. But for the for next day, it'll be the combined title.
