SFPD shoot and kill unarmed 19 yr old

I live in China. The police do not carry guns, nor do any citizens. Coming from the SF bay area, it feels like fucking heaven.

in Heaven do they have censored internet?

edit: there have 2 much worse shootings in oakland after the Oscar Grant incident both involving a clearly mentally unstable man brandishing a knife. What i find hard to understand is if someone doesnt have a gun why are cops still trained to shoot to kill? Why can't they do an Arnold style shoot the legs to disable them but not kill them. Is it just too much liability for the police department? to leave someone wounded but not killed? im confused

COPs have lots of nonlethal weapons for that scenario as well (tasers, bean bag guns, etc) that would probably be effective.

But if it's true that he was randomly firing into a crowded place would you really wanna take the call to just take him down with non-lethal force? Would this be enough to instantly stop him from firing more, possibly lethal, shots? When you've got that split second to react to the current situation you need to protect the innocent public. Reminds me a little of Jean Charles De Menezes. I knows it's vastly different factors but the split second decision is the deciding factor.

It was a bit disturbing they'd consider that ok to spotlight on a television show.

That's because it makes for great TV. Going by the comments that a lot of these videos get (esp , a segment of the population who believes it's the duty of the cops to shoot to kill rather than find less lethal ways to diffuse violence on the streets) this stuff is like torture porn for them. Just think of the rating$!

I agree that when someone is actually firing a gun that leaves little time to react.

On the opposite hand, here in montreal a few weeks ago a homeless guy ran away from some cops and they opened fire on him. The thing is, it was during the beginning of the morning rush hour near a subway entrance and they ended up killing an innocent bystander

Yeah srsly. Old COPS episodes suddenly look like critically acclaimed documentaries compared to the reality TV programming of late.

b. kid had a gun but when he fell he lost the gun, but police didnt know he lost the gun so were weary of approaching as they had all seen those movies where the bad guy is dead and you roll him over and theres the gun bang

When I watched the video, the word "Bayview" came to mind. Then I clicked on the link and whatayaknow.

I'm on the fence about this thing because it seems like they haven't found the weapon yet [correct me if I'm wrong]. The thing about this incident is that the guy might have been a piece of shit, but they didn't know that until after they shot him. If they can prove he fired shots at them while running backwards [which is kind of ridiculous to think about...] they really don't have much to go on. Just looks like whitey being whitey.

yeah but you could in theory fire a shot and then turn and run.

or you could buy a transfer

I was actually hoping a cop would ask me if I had a transfer today so I could show it and say "Don't shoot!"

if he was firing shots, then he deserved being shot. this isn't a taser scenario...

I certainly would like more info on all of this, but if he did indeed fire at police, then what other outcome should/would there have been?

This is where I am at also. The trouble is, when will we know when we've gotten the facts?

I know thugs aren't the smartest people, but I find it incredible, and mostly questionable, that someone would run away, fire their weapon, then keep running. Why not just dead sprint and keep running? And he has to know he's outnumbered in the first place.

If he shot at the police then they are obligated to fire back, but it just seems unbelievable.
