Chiastic Slide

Chiastic Slide. Probably my least favorite Autechre album as a whole, actually. From Hub to Pule is probably the least interesting stretch on any Autechre album, I think. I think of it as an awkward transitional album, with my favorite tracks on it being Cipater, Rettic AC, Cichli, and Nuane. Those are really awesome, but the other ones aren't that enjoyable to me. LP5 is when everything clicked and they really started slaying shit, Ae style.

i don't mind Hub as much, but Calbruc is dumb. i like the house-dub feel of Recury, like being a room or two removed from a bass-pumping dancefloor.

one of the things that strikes me about Chiastic Slide is I see Autechre fully embracing a "live playing" feel. like the jazz inflections of the melody on Cipater. the metered, circular rhythm on Cichli, or the beautifully dark, transiently menacing melody of Tewe. normally, it seems like whenever they feel their intuition telling them to play "tunefully" their abstract tendencies come out to try and alter that pure feeling. don't get me wrong, i love the abstract autechre too...but chiastic stands out as an album that embraces a straightforward playing style.

There's not a single dud on this album. Absolutely fucking epic. But yeah, it's all about repetition and hypnosis if you ask me. Calbruc is a toughie but it's actually pretty nice after a few cycles of listening, waiting, listening, waiting.

when i first heard rettic ac i could actually SEE the music.it was f....... incredible,i just knew from that point on that i would only listen to this kind of music.these guys & their music are really ''messed up''... just the way i like it

as for the rest of the songs-not a single weak track, but i agree, way easier to understand when listening to a whole album at once.

this is my 1. post, sry about the typing mistakes....

this is the album that got me into autechre, after an abortive attempt with draft 7.30 (since reappraised as awesome) ... after about a fortnight of intermittent listens and quite a few wtf moments i was baked to fuck playing a need for speed game at 3am with chiastic on and it just clicked into place... since then, addict.

love the cover as well. pure awesomes.

Chiastic Slide is all about Tewe. And the snow track just before.

Great track. That's the song that drew me into Chiastic Slide after so much apprehension to it (though I listened to Confield and Quaristice prior to it? I'm dumb). After that, Hub and Cipater kept me in. There's just something about Hub that I love; I wish I could describe why I like it, but I can't other than it's incredibly different and awesome execution of an idea I love.

Cipater was the first song I ever heard by Autechre, maybe a year ago or more I don't know. It was the first electronic music I ever liked, so it definitely has a special place in my heart. When I heard the whole album I was so blown away I had to listen to the rest of their catalog and that's how I started liking electronic music in general. To me, Chiastic Slide has that restrained chaos feel and a sort of near-apocalyptic sound, sort of barely holding together up until Nuane where it disappears into space, to never be seen again (until you press repeat that is)

Yup, if you're in the right mood for Hub it is lovely. Tewe has been my all time fav Ae track for months now, I've also found it to be one of the most acccessible tracks when indtroducing Ae to newcomers.

By snow track you mean Rettic AC? It becomes really nice as it progresses
