i'm reading Don DeLillo's Libra and am inspired to start writing again. have any of you tried your hand at writing something substantial? what do you find most difficult about writing? if you've got a novel, a short story, an essay, or some poetry, share it. i want to read it. let watmm lo and behold it!

It's ok. You are very young.

Yeah, I write poetry sometimes.

I'm quite shit at short stories, though.

I did Nanowrimo when I was 17. It's a waste of time, and basically a big joke. What possible value is there in a hack-job novel written in 30 days? None. It's writing for writing's sake, and that's pretty stupid as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, I write poetry and short stories - but the vast bulk of my writing comes from my day job as a professional copywriter.

I write all kinds of stuff, from long-copy sales letters to short articles for magazines, and I also single-handedly write editorial and promotional copy for an email list with 12,000 subscribers. So I do get read, and get paid... but not for the creative stuff. Which seems to be the case for most other people I know in the industry.

Does writing a dissertation count? It sucks, and I suck. Fuck it!

there is a 30 minute acid thread that has a lot of neat stuff in it made in only 30 minutes. I also remember there being project 168, where people made EPs in a week, and there was some good music there as well. kind of similar concepts I think, and they work for some people.
