Make Me A Playlist of BoC's Best

Joyrex

Recommended Posts

A coworker overheard skyliner being played off the Trans Canada Highway EP at work, and he liked it and I got into the whole "what kind of music is that?" deal that everyone who likes electronic music has to go through to explain to someone who's never heard electronic music before. So, rather than bore him with a bunch of names he'll probably forget, I thought it would be better to make a compilation CD of BoC's best tracks that would be good to introduce someone to BoC's music.

So, please take a crack at making a playlist, from BoC's entire back catalogue (OT included) that I can compile onto an Audio CD and let him listen to.

i think i would make a different list for introducing someone to boc than i would for my favorite boc tracks, but there would be lots of overlap. an introductory compilation should definately include these tracks (in no particular order):

chromakey dreamcoat

last walk around mirror lake remix

aquarius

kid for today

roygbiv

dawn chorus

IABPOITC

Happy Cycling

everything you do is a balloon

peacock tail

satellite anthem icarus

poppy seed remix

poppy seed remix (reprise)

Happy Cycling

Music Is Math

1969

sunshine recorder

beach at redpoint

alpha and omega

pete standing alone

orange romeda

sixtyten

IMO the essential introduction tracks are roygbiv, everything you do is a balloon, orange romeda, julie & candy.

June 9th is one of the few boc tracks that i always skip past

wtf, why?

seriously i just cant imagine why anyone would skip that track, it has the best multi-layered melodies ever.

I'd take a different approach here; it's an introduction, so it doesn't need to cover everything... twelve tracks is probably about right.

Corsair

Satellite Anthem Icarus

Telephasic Workshop

1969

In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country

Aquarius

Dayvan Cowboy

An Eagle In Your Mind

Music Is Math

Kid For Today

Chromakey Dreamcoat

ROYGBIV

I agree with that! This track is in my top10!

About the compilation, I would say to vary albums. I don't think Old Tunes trqcks are representative. I'd maybe suggest this:

-Aquarius

-Kid For Today

-Everything You Do Is A Balloon

-Music Is Math

-Chromakey Dreamcoat

-Telephasic Workshop

-Slow This Bird Down

-June 9th

-Sunshine Recorder

-As Is To B As B Is To C

-Sixtyten

I don't know if it fits into 74min.

That's as close as I can come to 74 minutes.

Basically, just make sure 5-9-78 and Happy Cycling are on there, and you'll be ok.

All previous playlists are null and void.
