encey Posted April 7, 2006 Share Posted April 7, 2006 AFX / Chosen Lords / Rephlex Sounding amazing in this sequenced order, Rephlex bring on the highlights from the Analord series. Even if you bought the vinyls this is still worth having as ordered like this everything locks into place and makes perfect sense. From track to track you get to appreciate the incredible quality and depth of the music that's come from these self imposed limitations, the strange and unusual sense of sadness that was present makes itself even clearer. This music is unlike anything Richard has ever done before but it still manages to achieve the feat of not sounding like anyone else could have made it. did you find there to be a "strange and unusual sense of sadness" in the Analord tracks? maybe some of them, but i find AFX's other work to have this much more, esp. chim Posted April 7, 2006 Share Posted April 7, 2006 definitely.. i count pissed up in se1, phonatacid, crying in your face as some of the best tracks he's ever made. three's still a playful undertone to his analord tracks but i dont think they're as positive as his other stuff.. they feel more mature in a way. then again he's said every track he makes is made with a smile and that he's totally unserious abotu the whole thing.. but i and other music makers would probaly agree on the fact that you always expose yourself through the music you make.. thats why i hate playing my music to some of my friends for instance Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I know what you mean, real weird mood to that track... sort of sad and optimistic at the same time, hard to pin down. I was gonna mention it myself. perunamuusi Posted April 16, 2006 Share Posted April 16, 2006 I always find it hard to believe that musicians who don't play instruments (IE, RDJ and Wisp) are able to come up with great, emotive melody almost by second nature. don`t you hear music in your head...???? do you need to play an instrument to be able to hum or sing??? surely knowledge of instruments can hinder you as much as help you when writing music...as they can tend to lead you into certain familiar things / progressions / intervals etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Key Posted April 17, 2006 Share Posted April 17, 2006 I think a lot of Analord is sad, something to do with the detuned analogueness that somehow sounds broken or distant, and the sparser drum progamming (well more sparse than anything hes done for the last 10 or so years) and lower bpm. Hes very good at sad though, especially the middle section of Arched Maid Via RDJ or Rhubarb. Klopjobs chord sequence, Pissed Ups wonky melody and Cilonens synths are all up there with these moments for me.
