Hardstyle Preview

hardstyle isn't the hottest thing around here so if you get any replies at all, i'm betting they're going to be pretty nasty. i'll give you a few tips though. the kick is rather muddy, it lacks punch, there's no whoomph to it. a start would be to make it louder, boost the 100hz area and get some mix compression or sidechaining in there so the whole mix breathes with the kick. getting the kick to sit right takes serious work. snares are rather thin, the filter sweeps don't really work, lead needs more definition. not sure if this makes any sense to you but basically, be attentive to what your heroes do, the levels of the different elements, the general sound so to speak, and work towards getting around that area aurally with your tunes. getting your ears sensitive enough to recognize this stuff takes years. another thing, try making a full song before you start calling things previews. sorry to be rough on you but the hardstyle genre is saturated with shit and you really have to do something special to stand out.

makes me want to drive nails through my skull in a very very positive way, with a smile in front of a mirror. But seriously: could it be that your speakers boost the lows ridiculously strong, would explain why your kicks lack punch as you hear boom boom all the time even if its not there.
