Why do you write music ?

So one day I read a thread title on the Renoise board named "Why do you write music ?" and thought it was a dumb question because it's obvious that you don't have any reason as it's basically making art.

But now I think I misjudged that question ; I realise it can be thought in a psychologic way which is IMO much interesting.

So, I sometimes realise one of the reasons I make music is for challenging myself to make something complex. I think this task is complex because when I do it what I try to do is to be original in my melodies and sound choices, to make it complex so it sounds like it's living, to make a good mix that follows the spirit of the composition...

I feel it that way because recently I've been sometimes a bit lazy for making music and the reason is I know I'll eventually reach what I have in my mind for the track I'm making (which is kinda false because I often just get close to it but never totally reach it..... ; anyway......). What I make doesn't sound as original as it used to do in my ears and I'm afraid one day my deep me would like to stop this.

Which would suck

Anyway, do you think you have a particular reason for making music, and do some of you sometimes feel the way I do ?

also, I just smoked and could regret that post

Antape !

I enjoy being in the flow, and having something to show for it afterwards. Also, as a career, it sure beats programming, although I enjoy that too, to a lesser extent. It's just nice to be able to make something you're proud of, and to be able to push yourself outside your comfort zone on a regular basis. But mostly, making music is just plain fun.

Mainly because I'm good at it and it would be a waste not to... Also because I love music, although I have to admit I do often find the writing process itself to be stressful and not terribly enjoyable.

Because I love music more than anything, and I really want to contribute to the world of music.

Also because I like that being a musician allows you to talk to & work with musicians you like on a level other than as a weird fanboy.

Like some personal form of meditation.

this. i could have typed a million reasons why, but in the end it comes down to this...

Yeah, that's a good reason actually. I do find that writing a track puts me in a better mood.
