microKORG for sale

Look at the number of Indie bands who use Microkorgs. Look at how many like it so much they put it on their album covers (I know it's more than two). The Microkorg is the closest 00s synthesizers came to being iconic.

Maybe that means it will be worth cash money in 20 years if aging hipsters get nostalgic.

I've always thought the MS-2000 was one of the nicer sounding popular VAs, so probably.

Anyway, Obel, you'll probably have better luck unloading this thing on non-electronic musicians. I sold the Microkorg I had when I was 12 to a guitar player for $350 a few years back.

or just lazy people who want to easily select 'drum 'n bass sound 1', or 'electronica sound 2'...... or hip hop sound 3.. lol

To be fair the MK is perfectly capable as far as VA hardware goes. I think it just gets a bad rep because

A. The control panel might not feel intuitive to people used to analog knobs or a DAW (aka most of WATMM)

B. A lot of the presets are quite cheese (though I seem to remember one SnH oceanic type patch that was quite nice)

C. For a long time it was the most affordable & widely available synth going so naturally it was used in a lot of terrible band music

you can overwrite the presets. just like any other synth

but, you can't escape from the program/patch/sound selection dial, and where it's clearly labelled on the front of the synth... in music genres... "drum 'n bass", "hip hop", etc. etc.

don't get me wrong, great little synth, for the travelling hipster, or lazy would-be musician on a budget. or youtube artist.

lol, people will hate on anything to show off their elitism. a microkorg can be great if you use it right. you say it sucks because indie bands use it and the pattern banks have dumb names? those are stupid, elitist reasons to hate something. functionally, it's perfectly fine. i bought one used 9 years ago and i don't plan on getting rid of it.

yeah, it definitely needs a custom job! because it looks crap. like a kids toy, with all the music styles/genres labelled like that.

but apparently it has the same synth engine as the MS-2000, tho? so that's good (for the money). it's just the design is crap.

and that microphone! jesus,,, i can't believe more people aren't sick to death already, and turned off by that awful, grating, vocoder sound!!!

signed,

I was looking at getting one, still broke though. So no chance.

i wouldn't bother mate there's not much point really, unless you find one dirt cheap and you don't have a lot of spare doe.

just pay a bit more if you can and get something like the MS-2000, and play wit the big-er boys. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

the ms2000 is basically microkorg minus knob diving. it's a true VA. the MK is a VVA. I love how no one is talking about buying Obel's. It's stil worth $400 new. A fair price to sell one in good condition would be $200-$250. go to independently owned music shop.

ya it will basically do everything the ms-2000 will, but you really need an editor to get at it all. It's go the guts, just not the interface.

except (if i remember correctly), you can't address both the timbres separately on separate MIDI channels - they have to be triggered together
