Mangle 11

I was listening to Mangle 11 and thought that this track is characteristic of Aphex talent in the way it couldn't really fit in any of his album and still all in the track sounds AFX.

I mean, sometimes I feel like every very good Aphex Track could be the starter for a new musical genre. Mangle 11 could be on an epic dark DNB style album made by RDJ.

Sorry to write this hardcore fan thread (anyway I suppose I'm in the right place for that) but I was hearing an Aphex track in the Favorite Music Video thread and I plugged my external HDD and listened to random Aphex tracks and it's been a while so it remembers me why I've an endless admiration for this guy.

this track kicks my ass, one of my favourite of his. just by using the amen break in such unique passionate way is a showcase of incredible talent. nobody has ever made it flow like that.

Yeah, the way he compressed that break makes it so incisive...

Also, I think that's the only track where Aphex use the amen break without hiding it, isn't it ? I think I've heard some amen snares in Hangable Auto Bulb EP but they're heavily processed so you can't recognise them unless you really pay attention.

ow, sorry. I made a search actually but maybe I mistaken in a letter or I don't know

Hey, if there's one song that is worth having 2 threads about it, this is it.

Off the fuckin chain.

This track is straight up mind-blowing. The use of the amen is definitely sick. I also love the ambient textures in the background throughout the 2nd half of the song that pull you in. It's quite hypnotic.

It is so fucking good, and I hadn't listened to it for months until now, so thanks for reminding me to do so.

For some reason I always get the impression that it's inspired by those mystery shortwave radio stations, but I don't know why. It just gives me kind of the same unsettling feeling as they do.

At the same time though, it's a total banger.

Guest plutopia

I've been glued to this track and White Lion for weeks (months?) in addition to the 5 other "Unreleased Tuss" tracks in the thread. I often listen to these combined with Drukqs (and Rushup Edge and Confederation Trough) as they flow together quite nicely in the mind's ear. I'm probably reading too much into it, but I think I'm getting the power station thing now (even though it's probably a complete fib..).

This is really a Drukqs track, basically. The way he writes this track feels a lot like Mt-Saint-Michaels/Mont-Saint-Michel. Everything in it's composition relates to that album. A little more and he inserts a "puck" sample.

Yeah I suppose that track is closer to Drukqs than to any other album but still, in my mind it couldn't be on Drukqs. There's something different in its atmosphere. Darker maybe. A lot of Drukqs tracks are dark but they always have a counterpoint to that. Yeah that's it, that track is IMO too frontal for being on Drukqs.

The Jones machine said he used to smoke a lot of joints with RDJ beside these wind turbines and listen to the sounds for inspiration

wouldn't surprise me if they went up there tripping once and the sound design and nature of the turbines whilst tripping clearly inspired him ;)

I like it so much more than deathfuck, which i find pretty lame.

strange - df is much more mature in implementation and ideas than mangle.

indeed. i've always wondered, is that a machine gun sample implemented into df intro at 0:43? it goes almost unnoticed... craziness

yes, I wouldn't be surprised if an earlier iteration of the track was meant to be a drukqs track, but decided it wouldn't fit.
