so now that we have an NIN thread can we talk about the absurdity that Reznor claims he looks like a roid-head now only because he stopped doing hard drugs, and that it's his 'normal look' when hes not a junkie. Does anybody here even remotely believe this? I mean i cant say with 100% certaintiy but everytime i see him i think of either GNC giant protein supplements or roids. He looks like such a meat-head now its embarrassing not to mention fucking weird

naw, you should see guys that actually use roids. He just looks kind of bigger, and he's not even huge or anything, he was just really fucking skinny before. Doing a lot of drugs will fuck up your eating habits.

he should have stuck with the drugs though - at least he'd still be writing decent songs...;)

Guest Greg Reason

His lyrics have always been awful but the music from Broken, The Downward Spiral, The Fragile and Still was immaculate, some of the greatest stuff of the era

I appreciate that he wants to be healthy and sane but it feels like there is less/no emphasis on making something engrossing that you can lose yourself in and more emphasis on beats and riffs in the modern NIN stuff. With Teeth was a straight-up pile of shit, even if the sound design was quite enjoyable. His idea of "focus on the songs" would be fine for an artist who wrote great songs, but that has never been Reznor's strong point. His strong point was making beautifully crafted pieces of sound art and when that went out the window he got really repetitive and disinteresting. He's become a parody of his old self, which is especially evident in that HTDA bullshit.

It used to really irk me that he used to be so great and then became so stale but since then I've seen many great artists lose their spark. Some of them get it back again (Devin Townsend being a case point) so I'm hoping that Trent can do that, fuck off all the half-baked pop songs and get back to doing what he's good at. I don't need him to play at my nostalgia by bringing back Downward Spiral production or whatever but it would be a step back in the right direction if he would recognize that there are enough people in the world writing semi-decent pop-rock songs but not enough people making expansive sound-art pieces in million dollar studios.

i think his fucking SSL desk is worth multi million dollars, let alone the rest of the gear.

he did sell a shitload of stuff though, but i'm thinking that was mainly tour gear that he can stand to lose.

My personal impression is that songwriting was always most important to him, & he never really acknowledged the fact that his real strong suit was coming up with creative atmospherics & applying them in the context of a pop song. I think he's realized that the last couple of years, seeing as the vast majority of his output has been instrumental music, but he still has a bit of a ways to go before he can soberly pull off what he did when he was a depressed on drugs 90s guy.

but i have, and that's why roids come to mind first when looking ar Mr REznor. Most of the roid users i know were lazy wigger pot heads who probably didn't work out as much as they should have while on the regiment. Reznor looks like he has the bulk but none of the tone, to me a tell tale sign of certain types of steroid users. It is absolutely 100% unbelievable to me that this is simply his natural look.
