To be £350-400 is just way too much for something that folks are most likely going to buy just as a games machine rather than a mini pc/pda. You have to bear in mind though that you'll be limited to what Sony Ericsson are willing to sell you unless you hack the device for Emulators etc. My current mobile games options are my Nintendo 3DS and my Ipod Touch. Now the 3DS is made for games - that's what it does and does well simply because it has the dedicated controls. Also the enhanced reality games are a lot of fun! For other stuff the 3DS pretty much sucks e.g browsing and apps. It shortcomings are why its simply struggling as a platform to make much progress. If the new Wii doesn't fly then Nintendo could become a footnote in history! Now onto the Iphone/Ipod Touch. They are more powerful and have a ridiculously huge library of games but the touch screen just doesn't make gaming anywhere near as fun. Also games tend to take time to load where as the 3DS games are much quicker! Now my thinking is there was a total lack of forethought within Apple when they started marketing it as a games platform to developers! Ultimately playing games with a touch screen is kinda frustrating and doesn't have the same buzz and feel without proper controls. That said I've only played and downloaded 2 games. So yeah Ipod Touch is definitely looking like a serious games machine. Downloaded Sonic Racers the other day and its sick! Hurts a little tho 'cause of there been support for your thumb tho! It can emulate everything listed here http://www.zophar.ne...nsoles/nds.html as well as DOS games using a basic PC emulator, and of course, DS games. It can also play videos, music, and display photos using moonshell. If you get a cheap memory expansion pack, you can also surf the internet using a browser rom. You can buy a used DS lite for around $50, an R4 for $5, and a 2gb microsd card for $3, making it much cheaper than a dedicated emulator like the Dingoo. just sayin'. Guest Posted October 28, 2011 Share Posted October 28, 2011 Were you using the default firmware or Wood R4? because Wood R4 clears up a lot of the issues that the default has, and I think that's one of them. could have also been a knockoff r4 card. Guest bitroast Posted October 28, 2011 Share Posted October 28, 2011 The DS Lite was my absolute favourite portable game console for this very reason <3<3<3. However, the buttons on my DS started to wear out (L and R shoulder pads especially are becoming awkward to press) and once Ocarina of Time 3D came out, I took the plunge and got myself the 3DS. I've heard that they're good, but I think you have to get one of the really early ones, and then it's more complex to hack it than it is to just buy an R4 card and put it in a slot. If you can find one for the right price, and hack it, then it's probably at least as good of an option as long as you don't want to play any DS games. Of course, you can't play PSP games on the DS either, but that's beside the point. The bottom screen on the DS is usually used for settings on emulators, and a keyboard on the DOS and Scumm emulators I think. It's handy, but it's not super important.
